  1. @nelletankus I hear you with the confusion about writing sample! UNM's application seemed to be boiler-plate for all their grad programs, and their specific program guidelines are pretty generic also. I talked to Greg Moss (who runs the program) last year, and it seemed like he was working on growing the program from a dryer academic sort of thing into a practical MFA that resembles some of these others more closely, so maybe that's in process. I basically just sent in the same writing samples I did for all the other programs--full length plays. Hopefully they'll cycle back around and let me know if they want more analytical writing, though not sure why they would...
  2. @andrea907, yay!!! So happy for you! Updates on my end--I'm also flying to UT/Michener at the end of the month, after an interview last week. Super excited! Crickets from everywhere else: UCSD, Brown, Brooklyn, Juilliard (well, but we know they don't even interview until April, so no worries), UNM. Mostly I'm a bit freaked out about UCSD, since I got asked to interview there in early Feb last year and haven't heard a thing yet this round...anyone heard anything from UCSD or Brown yet? Or have a sense of Brooklyn's timing? Not that I'm obsessing or anything. Who, me? Obsessing? Psh. In related news, how are y'all taking care of yourselves in this anxiety fest?
  3. @las242 Anecdotal timeline experience from applying last year: UCSD: Naomi reached out to schedule our interview Feb 9th, visited for more interviews Feb 28th-29th, got told I was an alternate (their version of waitlist) on Apr 19th. UT/Michener (they seem to treat it like one program in terms of communication and interviews, with 4 slots, though I know the evaluation processes are slightly different): Kirk reached out to schedule our interview Feb 2nd, got told I was top of the waitlist Mar 15, agonizing month of maybe yes, maybe no, and then got news I didn't get a spot on Apr 13th. Yale: radio silence until status update notification, which told me I hadn't been accepted on Feb 29th. Welllp. That's all pretty freaking soon here, isn't it? Shit. Cue the anxiety... :-o
  4. Hey hey, folks. Here we go again. I applied to UT Austin, Juilliard, Brown, UCSD, Brooklyn College, and UNM. Ditched Yale after not loving it in my visit last year. I came super close with a few of these last year, so hopeful! But waiting with bated breath.
  5. Congrats, @Boxedwine! That's so exciting! I know how you feel re writing motivation, oy. Limbo is the worst. @jamesprongs101, thank you for your encouragement! I'm just sending all the good vibes and hopes that everyone who got into UCSD and UT also gets into Iowa, CMU, Juilliard, in off waitlists at Yale and Brown, etc. They get to go where they really want to be! Everyone gets what she/he/ze wants! Hooray! :-)
  6. Congrats, everybody! So many courageous people here, regardless of acceptances. Joining the chorus of UCSD alternates--and now knowing there are at least 3 of us, I wonder how that works? Is this like a waitlist? My sense from Naomi was that the two admitted had accepted their offers, but perhaps I'm reading that wrong? Either way, it's been fantastic to get to know the school and the lovely people there. @Boxedwine, hope to see you at Sewanee! I'm thinking the same way. :-) Also still waiting on another waitlist at UT Austin, and considering throwing an application at one more--does anyone know anything about the University of New Mexico program? It's not one that I'd heard much about, but it's close to family for me, so worth considering perhaps. If nothing manifests this go-round, I'll probably wait and apply again after getting so close this time around. The AGONY of having been a finalist in so many places, not outright accepted to any, still not knowing if I'll get in, and still hoping despite sinking suspicions that it might be another year for me as well...
  7. @Boxedwine, it was a back and forth that began last week, but we just finalized the dates last Friday, and I'm flying out this Friday. Quick turnaround! @lrb0192, that makes total sense now that I look more closely at your dates. Good luck! Keep us posted!
  8. Awesome! I'm brand new too, equally excited and totally anxious. I also just got word I'm flying out to UCSD for an in-person interview -- @lrb0192, any insights on what to expect? I hope yours went well! Maybe we'll get to write together next year. :-) I'm on the waitlist at UT Austin, and still radio silence from Yale....
