  1. Congrats! :D! That's kind of how I did it; I applied and interviewed at CMU, went to the URTAs, and waited. Had interviewed at UT Austin and Northwestern. Still waiting on all of them, haha. But no news is good news!
  2. Hi! Sorry for the immense delay is posting... life has been crazy with applying and going to all these schools. I'm going for Costume Design too! If you want to talk, let me know! :D!
  3. CMU saying that they're sending out results "very soon"; the head of graduate admissions is out (it's spring break here) this week, so there's a fair chance nothing will be sent out this week unless they don't need him to make the decision. @voldy24601 I'm not in Directing, but I have an interview at Northwestern on March 18! Have fun! :D!
  4. Hi! I'd suggest talking with a few programs you might be interested in. Many programs claim to need a BFA in, say, theater, dance, or art... but if they show talent and have the experience, they'll consider you just the same. The art school I went to accepted all sorts of folks for their MFA program (lawyers, former actors, engineers, etc), and they weren't no slouch in the fine arts school department. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have questions, a few of my friends did what you are talking about and got their MFAs just fine
  5. @mr.taco It caused such a stir! Luckily drama or art wasn't affected by those shenanigans (I think the admissions process for those schools differs from, say, computer science or engineering), but it was terrible for the school. I bet that all the departments at CMU are being SUPER careful this year to make sure that doesn't happen again. And no problem! I was admittedly watching the CMU results postings and these threads and when I saw that no one knew what was going on with CMU, I figured I should share the info I had to possibly ease some minds, haha. And yay! haha. I might just! If anyone has any questions about Pittsburgh/CMU/other things, I've lived here my entire life (no joke) and can answer questions. It's good to make friends with other folks in theater too! Break legs, y'all!
  6. @mr.taco (finally got the hang of this tagging thing) I don't believe so. None of them mentioned it, but that could also just be them being cagey/not wanting to tell people what happened. From what I'm reading/hearing, it sounds like they did a first round of rejections and are evaluating the rest of the pool (with the March 1 extension being for something else... it's the most confusing thing to me, honestly. Since you interview after you apply... would that mean they would be holding interviews through March and April? Do you have any thoughts on that?). My partner's mum is the head of a department (undisclosed, but not directing) at CMU Drama (and he grew up in the school, basically... imagine a small child sleeping in fabric bins and helping frantic grad students with busywork). He told me that this seems odd, but that it's nothing to be overly concerned about. THAT and CMU had that massive scandal where they accidentally sent out hundreds of false acceptances last year... so they might be trying to be careful...
  7. @mr.taco Yep! It would have made more sense if it was just one or two... but it was every single one. When I was at UTA (there were a few directing folks there too), none of the students there had gotten an acceptance from CMU or heard of anyone getting one, just rejections.... which is also odd. But, hey, CMU! haha.
  8. -sneaks in- I'm applying for Costume Design at a bunch of places (Northwestern, CMU, and UT Austin are the top picks), but I wanted to throw this out there in case folks are concerned... that and theater folks need to stick together, right? Background: CMU Fine Art (BFA) undergrad, changing careers. Went to the URTAs, interviewed with CMU and UTA, interviewing at Northwestern in the middle of this month. - CMU extended all their application deadlines to March 1, but they're no longer available to access since that time has lapsed (you can check on Slideroom and see what I mean). On their website it still says the deadline was January 1; perhaps they extended auditions or one department didn't get enough candidates... who knows! So, I'm not entirely surprised that they're not getting back to anyone or sending anything out. When I interviewed at UT Austin, I was told by the faculty there that CMU handed out a bunch of rejections and they haven't heard of anyone being accepted... SO, all of that is pretty mysterious. I don't know if that helps put anyone's mind at ease, but I was told that it wasn't something I should be worried about. ANYWAYS, just passing through and wanted to throw that out there. Break some legs, y'all!
