It's great to hear you're enjoying the program! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the following questions as I make my decision: 1. Do employers recruit on campus? What kinds of organizations? Could you give us a list? 2. Are employers outside of California familiar with GPS? 3. Are there a lot of job opportunities in California for international business + Asia? That's the field I would hope to land a job in after graduating. 4. How strong is the International Management track and where do those alumni tend to find jobs? Thanks in advance
-
I had ruled GPS out because of its location on the West Coast, but it's back in consideration on my list again because I want to have international business and Asia opportunities available to me after graduate school, and California might have some good options. Anyone else know how the job market in california is for international business?

I got my fellowship email! It says I received "One year California non-resident tuition and fees and one year California resident tuition and fees." I think that means I still have to pay professional degree supplemental tuition, room and board, books and transport though

Meghna congrats! How much funding did you get? I haven't received any emails about it yet...

for me, if I get full funding from UCSD like in the form of a Robertson fellowship (full ride + stipend), then it will be a very tough decision. I'm expecting at least $5000 in fellowship funding though because I was a PPIA alumni. I want to be involved with East Asia policy in the future, which UCSD + a Robertson would be a great set up for. However I'm working in the private sector now, and could see business as a possibility after grad school as well, so I want that option to be open too, and that's where SAIS and SIPA come in. I know SIPA also has a great Asia network in case I want to work in Asia in the future.

update- emailed the admissions director and she replied today that fellowship info will come "very very soon." not sure what that means..
-
*sigh I wish they would give us the fellowship info soon so I can make a better decision. I already received fellowships from the other 3 universities I applied to (Berkeley MPP, Columbia SIPA, and Hopkins SAIS) so I think the only thing that would tip the scale for UCSD would be substantial funding right now. I agree, the name isn't as instantly recognizable in terms of brand, and the alumni seem to be carving a way for themselves. I called the admissions office last week, and they said they would send fellowship info last Fri/today so hoping it comes soon!

has anyone heard back about fellowship funding yet?
-
I was accepted to the DC campus, $22,500 fellowship for first year. It's too bad there's no graduate assistantships we can do in the 2nd year to waive tuition.
-
I'm considering GPS for International Politics with a focus on Korea/China. I was admitted early, but still waiting on my fellowship info. The school is very quant heavy, and the poli sci department is fantastic from what I've heard. They also have a lot of great centers that are doing research and applied work for East Asia policy, and a lot of alumni are working in the East Asia thinktank/government arena.

I was accepted with a $25k fellowship for each year - it's something but still quite expensive especially for NY living.
-
Thanks for the heads up! I'll look into that bit more. It's probably too late to apply for other fellowships now so GSIs are my best bet.
-
Good luck!! Hope you hear back soon

Do the GSIs cover tuition and health completely? If so, would I just need to pay room and board?
-
Oh my god you were right, I just got my acceptance too!! Only got $8000 fellowship though.. so that leaves a big chunk to fund as an out of state.
