  1. bumping up the thread for more replies!
  2. What are some things you wish you had known when you started your doctoral program?
  3. Waiting for replies is driving me crazy!!!!!!!!

  4. Thanks for your help everyone! I appreciate the advice, and now I have some avenues to continue my search for opportunities.
  5. How do you get research experience if you are not currently a student? I've looked for research assistant jobs, but everything I've found already wants you to have a PhD. I didn't get significant research experience in my master's program because it was more practice based, and my undergrad was in an unrelated field. Most PhD programs already require you to have research experience when you apply, but I don't know how to get that experience! I'm interested in Education and Developmental Psychology programs. Thanks in advance for any advice!!
  6. Has anyone gotten an interview for a developmental psych program yet? I see that srkr is interviewing at OK State, anyone else?
  7. I got a rejection letter in the mail about two weeks ago. I applied for a Master's program.
  8. My ultimate goal is to eventually apply for a PhD program at a top-tier school. I have been accepted for an MA at UCLA and I am waiting to hear from an MEd program at Harvard. This may be a non-issue because there is of course a good chance I will not get into Harvard. However, even if I do, I think it would be better to go to UCLA because I would have an opportunity to write a thesis, whereas at Harvard I would not. I think that the research experience gained from writing a thesis will be beneficial in applying for a PhD. However, my parents think that the name "Harvard" alone trumps everything else, and that if I get accepted at Harvard I should just go there, even though I would not get to write a thesis. What do you guys think? Would my potential PhD application be strengthened more by going to UCLA and writing an MA thesis or by going to Harvard? I appreciate everyone's insight and assistance.
  9. I need to choose between UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and University of Michigan Ann Arbor. I am totally lost as to what to do, because I like all of the schools for different reasons. What would you do if you were facing this choice? Does anyone have any advice? I am interested in doing research, not a degree for practicing teachers.
