  1. I majored in bioinformatics and managed to get into a few programs for BME. I probably could have helped my chances more if I had taken a look at the courses typically required of a BME undergraduate student and taken them. However, I did get in regardless of the courses I was missing (differential equations and physiology hindered me from being accepted into a PH.D. program). I would say that your major doesn't matter that much so long as you can try to fit in typical courses for electives.
  2. How would I go about finding research as a post-bac? I was hoping to go to a different school for post-bac so should I just reach out to professors?
  3. I'm a bioinformatics major hoping to make the switch to biomedical engineering. I applied to CMU and was accepted into their M.S. program but not their Ph.D.. I have every intention of pursue a Ph.D. since I want to go into the research aspect of the field. However, when I applied this season it was a last minute decision. Because of this, I only applied to three places, places I wasn't even certain I wanted to attend. I did not do much in terms of prep, not really prepping for the GRE or researching into programs that weren't recommended to me by my advisor. . So I was thinking it might be a better idea to defer for a year, post-bac during this time and apply to places I didn't consider my first time around. I'm waiting on the other two places to reply, but I'm heavily leaning toward post-bac unless I get a Ph.D. acceptance. I'm just curious what everyone's opinion on this is. Even if I get a Ph.D. offer, I don't know if I should accept or not since maybe in a year, if I dedicate a lot of time to the subject, I could become a better candidate to better programs. But then again, why ask for more and risk getting nothing?
  4. Calling was easily the best decision I've made this application season. Thank you so much, it's like all my anxiety melted away (for now anyway). For anyone who's interested, Rutgers should be posting results end of next week. Meaning March 24-26th. Now I can focus on finishing my capstone instead of refreshing my admission page every hour.
  5. Did you hear anything? Hey, so what lead you to the decision to call the admission board? I'm dying to hear from rutgers and when I emailed them they said we'll let you know by april 15th. I kinda feel like that's unfair to not post results until the day of decisions and I've been considering calling them maybe next week since that's my top choice for Ph.D. and the waiting has been stressing me out more than I have ever been in my life. Do you think it would reflect badly on me to reach out to them a second time?
  6. Has anyone heard from Pittsburgh? I was contacted by a specialty masters program fo medical devices but beyond that nothing. Also anyone heard anything from Rutgers ph.d?
