  1. And yes, it is ABSOLUTELY learn-able. If your perspective in terms of cognition aligns with fixed intelligence, you're going to want to address that internally first, because it will greatly hold you back - implicitly and explicitly :-) Incremental learning, my friend. It's the basis of the field!
  2. 35 year old SLP masters student who is NOT a math person here. I was educated in Canada & am now in the U.S. I exclusively used magoosh & Kahn Academy, and was VERY happy with my results. Highly recommend. It just takes time.
  3. Sure, They are working hard right now to prepare for the larger cohort, but ultimately some resources will be stretched and space will be tight (e.g. Things like office hours, which are currently relaxed/drop-in will likely be changed to by-appointment). Their point of view was that things work optimally at 27-28 students, and that I should consider coming next year when they can get closer to that target. Things like one-on-one time and placements/externships were mentioned, but they will move us to the larger classrooms to accommodate. I'm curious about how it's going to affect the number of clinic patients we each get. Currently, 1st & 2nd years both see bet 3-5 each, so I'm going to imagine that average will fall. HTH
  4. @chg38 They aim for 27-28 in total, split between the two tracks. ?
  5. There are 18 current first year students, I believe 10 track 1 & 8 track 2. I've recently spoken to Dr Robey & several professors, and only 1 prof. mentioned deferring, but did say to strongly consider. The message w that they would gladly hold a place in the following cohort. It is definitely going to be a challenge in some respects, but they didn't want to reverse any acceptances.
  6. Meant to add - Richmond may be a likely commuter location for placements, and is about a 60 min drive from Charlottesville. ?
  7. ETA: Aaaaand Dr Robey wrote most of this in an email today. ? I was chatting w the current first years today, and I thought I would share that the class consists of 53 people! They also mentioned that the quarters (like the grad study space/clinic) are going to be be tight, as they're already crowded and the current first year cohort is only 18 students. I've also learned they may be moving up to 3 classes to the evening, after the clinic closes at 7pm, bc it will be hard for the clinic to operate with the entire cohort in class. I was speaking with one of the professors, and they strongly suggested deferring, but I'm a mature student, so that's not in the cards for me! But they are aware that managing things like office hours is definitely going be a challenge. Also, the Facebook will be up soon! Hope this is helpful info, all ?
  8. I think that might be the date/time of the 3rd visitation day, but I think that might be open for anyone. Def not positive tho :-)
  9. Just a quick update that the FB will be set up in April :-)
  10. Hi, Congrats all! I've also been accepted (for track 1) & I'm so excited! I've not heard of a FB yet, but it will surely be set up soon ??
  11. Hi straybirds :-) I have been accepted as well (!!!) I've lived in Cville for 3 years, and I thought I could try to answer some of your questions, particularly bc I have been taking my prereqs there for the past year and have gotten to know a bit about the department. I love it here. I ~love~ the faculty I've met thus far, the facilities are good, and the campus at large is an amazing mix of great facilities meets birth of the nation... and if you're down with southern prep style, I think you'd feel pretty at home. I moved here after 7 years in NYC, and even though it is *small* it packs an amazing punch. Beautiful area with lots of places to get outdoors, great music scene, too many restaurants and a fairly healthy night life - especially outside of "the corner" which is the ubiquitous strip across from the university where undergrads go to drink their feelings on weekends ;-) I've really enjoyed the classes, and have gotten to know the track 2 grad students a bit and have picked their brains about their experience. They are a really nice group - they've been very busy, but super friendly and approachable. This past cohort was a small group, so they've got heavy clinic hours at the moment. Hopefully this cohort will have closer to the 27 they try to aim for! I'm going to start finishing up my observing hours after the break, so I can tell you more once I've met Dr. Hilton (clinic director) et al. Our audiology class did a hands on in the clinic last week, and it's on the smaller side, but like I said, everyone has been very busy! Will you be track 1 or 2? Let me know what I can help you with! PS. In case it's helpful, Dr Loncke is pronounced /lɑŋkə/ ?
