Yeah I'm also confused. I declined at Western, and I know of at least 3 other people that I met at the U of T Open House that got into Western but chose U of T. I feel like she may be exaggerating the numbers a little bit... -

I looked at this a little while ago, and what I noticed is that they have a few half-semester courses. So instead of running from Sept-Dec, some of them run for Sept-Oct. For example, Clinical Phonetics and Clinical Transcription of Speech (9611a) runs from September 10 until October 15 (date of final exam). Basically, you'd take 9 different types of courses but some would end halfway through to be replaced by a new course that starts in the middle of October. Also, the Clinical Applications courses look similar to labs and are only worth 0.25 credit. It looks like these courses run the whole semester: Anatomy & Physiology Fluency Disorders Language Acquisition Speech Science (Clinical Applications - labs?) And these courses run for half the semester: Clinical Phonetics and Clinical Transcription Introduction to Professional Practice This means you have 5 'full-semester' courses along with 3 different labs. Hope that helps! -

I have officially accepted at University of Toronto, so hopefully that opens up a spot for someone at Western soon! I wonder how soon after the 15th they will send wait listed acceptances. Does anyone have any idea? -

Oh hey, another commuter! That's exactly my reasoning for U of T, it's going to save a ton of money as opposed to rent in London. If there was a huge difference in how good the programs are, that would be a different story. But they are both great schools with great programs. It's nice to see I'm not the only one! How long would your commute be? -

I know what you mean, I started worrying that it was silly to choose U of T just because it's closer, but the more I think about I know it's valid. There's no point racking up for debt when Western wouldn't really have any advantage over Toronto. They both look like amazing schools, so I don't think there's a 'wrong' choice. They are both fantastic. Western I definitely think would have the student life right there for you and it would be easy to get involved. But I think Toronto has just as much culture, you just need to look harder to find it The one thing about U of T is that I really do like the structure of the program - completing an academic unit on one general area, immediately followed by a placement in that area. I know I learn really well this way, applying things fresh from learning about them. I think this will really help me. The Western program seems a little less clear cut, but that may work better for others! -

Thanks for sharing! It seems like a lot of people are choosing based on personal reasons, which I think are totally valid. For me, I live only a 45 min GO train ride away from the downtown Toronto campus. So U of T gives me the option to commute for even just the first year or so if I want, and that way I can live at home and save money. London seemed like a cool adventure for me but I think practicality is pretty important. I went to U of T for my undergrad and I loved it there, I'm excited about the idea of going back. I also want to point out that apparently a U of T professor called for me last night - I was at work so I didn't get it, but he left his number and I will call him tonight probably. That made me feel a LOT better about the school because I was so impressed that Professor Orange called from Western, the faculty seems so nice there. I'm hoping to find just as many nice people at Toronto! And while 50 students seems like a lot, it will still be much smaller than the undergrad classes I was used to -

I will be there on Friday too! I would also be very interested in why people are choosing one of these over the other. I'm pretty sure I'm leaning toward U of T but it would be nice to know what other people are thinking to help them decide. -

There are a few. I found some information about them in the U of T Student Handbook for SLP. If you want the link to the entire handbook, you can find it here: http://www.slp.utoronto.ca/current-students/mhsc-student-handbook/ -

Haha that's a good point! I am also planning to attend if I can get the time off work. Really hoping it will help me decide! -

Accepted to Western!! Wow I think I'm in shock!!! Congrats to everyone who got in and good luck to those waitlisted!! I have also not heard anything from U of T so I'm really glad I at least have an acceptance to hold onto to get me through the day -

Is anyone else going absolutely crazy waiting for April 1st? I thought I'd be able to play it cool in all the time leading up to the decisions, but this week has been excruciatingly slow. I really just want to know what I'll be doing in September so I can start planning my life! I'm so distracted at work every day -

I guess we really shouldn't be surprised that they changed the deadline. Must have been a nice chunk of cash they got from that strategy *Ahem* help me get off the McGill waitlist... Although I would love Toronto too. It's a weird position not knowing whether or not I'll be going to school at all in September, so at this point I really don't care as long as SOMEONE accepts me! -

Yep, I got that too! It gave me a heart attack at first because all I read was 'we are unable to admit you' and I thought that meant they changed their mind and rejected me outright -

Wow I had no idea they did that. I did my undergrad at U of T and honours was the only option in order to graduate. I didn't know it was really an advantage.
