  1. I'm sorry I don't know the answer to that question. I am assuming they are going to get all of their offers out first and then send their rejections, but that is only speculation.
  2. I have not heard from them either. I am assuming I didn't get in as I have heard from people (on and off of this forum) that have been accepted or been waitlisted.
  3. From a presentation I went to their admission percentage was still 17% of applicants. Which was the same as Laurier. I think the difference is the sheer number of applicants.
  4. Congratulations! That is so exciting ?
  5. Unless they are doing emails in waves, I don't think I got in. No email and my admissions page hasn't changed at all yet. Oh well makes my decision process easier I guess =P
  6. Hi @Golden10! Do you mind me asking when you heard from Laurier? Is this a recent development? Thanks! ? Update: Never mind I just read the page before this one. Thanks for tipping me off to it!
  7. With respect that is quite a negative and verging on rude outlook. While I haven't read every page of this forum it seems like people have been very positive and supportive of one another. At the same time, no one has posted their personal statements so it is impossible to determine someone's 'WOW' factor as you put it. I find that kind of judgement pretty harsh. I believe everyone here has worked very hard towards their goal, but everyone is at different places along their journey towards that goal. Personally, I applied back in 2016 with what I thought to be a good amount of experience along with a solid application and I got rejected from every school I applied to. Over the past few years, I logged a lot more hours and worked hard to get where I am today. In this forum just like in life, we have no idea the path other people have walked. And any comment, regardless of its original intent, that minimizes people's efforts and disvalues what should be a celebration of their hard work is not okay in my books. I agree that this kind of forum can have a negative impact on personal well-being as it becomes easy to compare ones-self to others and make it seem more like a competition. For me, it's important to recognize that different schools are looking for different things based on their values and mission statements. And there are grossly more applicants than there are spots UofT and Laurier for example last year were only able to accept 17% of the applicant pool. I believe its important as future social workers for us to know our own limits, so if you feel this group isn't a positive space for you then follow that instinct. However, that doesn't mean it is okay to discredit other's accomplishments. I wish you all the best where ever your journey takes you.
  8. Thank you!! 4 weeks, which is now 3 weeks... =/
  9. That is ridiculous that they make the deadline so soon. They do it in an attempt to secure applicants, but that us just shady. They know most schools haven't sent out their offers yet.
  10. I'm in a very similar boat! Honestly I'm kind of hoping I don't get accepted to Laurier so I don't have to make a decision... If I do though I'd be happy to review with you and be a sounding board! It's a big decision.
  11. Did you apply to the 2 year or advanced standing? From my understanding, offers are done in stages and 2 year offers go out after advance standing. UofT advance standing went out last week... so hopefully soon! The wait for Laurier is also killing me right now... checking my email FAR TOO OFTEN
  12. Hi! From a quick website search this is what I was able to find. Ryerons: We will start to notify first consideration applicants of admissions decisions in mid-March, and will continue to notify all applicants of an admissions decision on a rolling basis until all available spots have been filled. *https://www.ryerson.ca/socialwork/admissions/msw-faqs/ York: Nothing sorry =/ Hope that helps even just a little!
  13. My best advice is to be professional, reflective, honest, and vulnerable without oversharing. If you use those lenses you should have a great statement! =)
  14. I am in the BSW at Waterloo/Renison right now. Same to similar faculty wise not sure about the courses though.
  15. Thanks! And I'm sorry to hear that. I honestly have no idea, the programs are so different and there would be logistical considerations for both as well. I know it sounds bad but I'm hoping I won't get into Laurier so I don't have to make a decision. I have a feeling I didn't though, with the way they calculated my admissions average I was just barely above the acceptable level, so not very competitive.
  16. Congratulations!! I really wanted to apply to that program but my current program doesn’t end until June =( When I previously applied to UofT 2 year MSW I heard at the beginning of March, BUT I was one fo the first people filtered out of the process, so I would image it would be after that.
  17. @SC-MSW 2019 I am glad it helps! Yes I did remember hearing that about the waiting as well. Which is why I take the average with a grain of salt because it must be such a wide spectrum of all different backgrounds. Thank you very much, I appreicate that!! We will see what happens soon!
  18. I did! Mental Health & Health. Just waiting to hear from Laurier...
  19. Hi @SC-MSW 2019 I'm sorry I don't know how they would calculate it BUT I will attempt the math in a way that makes sense to me. 35 hr/week x 52 = 1820 × 3.6 = 6552* *this assumes no vacation or holidays though which would reduce the number. And assumes a 35 hour week if they use a higher number it would increase the number. 4515 ÷ 1820 = is 2.84 years (again assuming the above formula is correct). I think it's also important to note that Laurier evaluates hours based on what they believe is relevant experience. Meaning they might not use all the hours that were submitted in their calculation, if they felt some weren't relevant. I hope that helps!!! Reading it back it sounds discouraging, but please don't take it that way you've got to believe in yourself ? Best of luck!!
  20. Hi! I just went through all the paper in my office (it’s a bit of a mess...) and I must have recycled the notes I took from their session BUT I went into my email and found this reply from Lynn I hope it helps ? “Due to the volume of applications we receive each year the applicant pool is highly competitive not only with a high GPA ranking but also with direct experience in the field. The competitive average for candidates who started the MSW Advanced Standing program in September was 10.8 (84%) and 3.6 years of experience. This does not mean all candidates reflected this specific profile as it is an average, however candidates who reflected a strong B+ (78-79%) scored much higher in their experience profile.” Always good to remember though that each year will be a little bit different based on that pool of applicants.
  21. I would wait until offer season has died down to ask for some feedback, you might get better response. I’m sure she is getting inundated with emails at this point. Last year they accepted 90 people out of 350 so if 260 people emailed for feedback a copy paste is likely the only way to keep up with it all. On top of that she probably has emails from people who got in with follow up questionsas well. If they still don’t provide feedback then I would agree it’s kind of shitty, but what I would suggest then is to seek information from one of their Liaison (recruitment) Officers or ask if they have any data about the accepted pool. Laurier was able to give me some averages of last year’s pool when I talked to them about applying this year to see where I stood.
  22. Good idea Angela is so awesome (at least in my experience)! That would be such a hard job but she does it well
  23. I agree with the 1 year postgrad program suggestion. It equals out to the the same amount of time you get an additional degree and more social work experience. I applied in 2016 for two year didn’t get in so I worked for a bit then went back for the 10 month BSW at Renison (which is what I’m currently doing). I recognize this path isn’t for everyone but it worked well for me. Good luck @LilyGarden222!
  24. 2 year And thanks! Still waiting on Laurier.... though trying not to get my hopes up.
  25. Hi All, I have spent most of my time reading your posts and not really participating (what an amazing/supportive community you all are!) I thought I would let you know that no news is good news (at least for now) with regards to some schools. I got my rejection letter from UofT on Feb 29th, and it got shipped out the Friday before. So if you haven't heard yet then my guess is you are still being considered in some capacity whether that be admission or wait-list. Best of luck!
