  1. Nope, I'm totally with you. I asked my program in question what they'd do in the my original scenario (admit rejects offer before 4/15, would adcomm meet about waitlisters before 4/15), and he said they'd move ahead immediately "case-by-case". Am I pushing to ask how they make their waitlist decisions, by asking him the scenario you presented about research fits, etc? Last thing I want to do is alienate myself.
  2. Any thoughts on upping my "wow" factor? Flowers? Candy?
  3. I've been waitlisted, and put into a pool of three unranked applicants. If an admit declines the admission offer, will the ad comm meet soon thereafter and advise the waitlist applicant of their choice promptly? Or no matter the amount of admission offers that applicants reject, they'll still wait until after April 15th to offer offers to those on the waitlist? I'm inclined to ask the program's grad coordinator, but I've bothered the guy too much to this point. I think my emails show that I'm truly interested, but I'd hate to become a nuisance the guy.
  4. Sorry, but I just edited my original post to show that I applied for the PhD program. I got emailed about 1-1/2 weeks ago that I was waitlisted. I know that there is another poster on here who said they got admitted to the PhD program. Good luck to you too. This admit season has been rough for us all it seems.
  5. Got waitlisted, and wondering if anyone that got accepted for the PhD program is going to reject the offer. It's my top school, so help me out here! PM me if that's better.
  6. Am I guessing WSU is Washington State? If so, their deadline for PhDs was 1/1. Univ of Alabama's PhD deadline was 2/15.
  7. Emailed all my POI's (some of whom didn't know I was waitlisted), but all thanked me for emailing them. They both sounded like they really wanted me to attend, and would be in my corner. Gonna email the grad coordinator every few weeks just to my name in front of him, and remind him of my desire to attend. Gotta do all I can! Lord knows I need a "Yes!" at this point.
  8. I got accepted to a campus interview, with all hotel and airfare paid for (which is rare in my field), but I ended-up getting onto an unranked waitlist. While i'll say the visit obviously didn't get me in, it probably didn't hurt either. The grad coordinator said I did great and everyone loved me, but the other applicants had more research experience. Put your game face on, best foot forward, and bribe where necessary.
  9. Just got a "No" from LSU. Man this is depressing!
  10. Ditto.
  11. Yah, the package isn't the best, but if it's one of your top schools, take it! I'd die for an admit at UT-Austin.
  12. At least your mailman isn't losing your mail. We've had plenty of mail lost. Got our water disconnected last month because we never received the bill. Swear those idiots are illiterate. I'm worried that I'll get accepted into a program via mail, but not find out. That actual scenario caused me to call a program last week, that unfortunately informed me i didn't get in. But, I guess better than worrying...
  13. Just put in a late app for Texas Tech. Fingers crossed...
  14. Absolutely! Keep your name in front of them. When they have someone reject the offer, I would seriously think those that stayed in touch and showed sincerity in applying would have some benefit. You can never tell/show them how much you want to be in that program. Use anything you can to your advantage.
  15. Seriously? Who can afford go get a PhD without funding?!?!
  16. I was told earlier today that I am one of three on the wait list, and that the list is "unranked". I'm guessing they look at who has declined, and then the best fit of the three wait-listers? The school is not a top school, so I'm betting a few of the five admits will surely reject for better schools.
  17. A great thread! I'd be interested to see if anyone else knows some other programs with late deadlines.
  18. I just emailed I asked that I was interested in knowing my position on the wait list so that I can realistically know my chances, and gauge the offer versus other admission offers (which are still pending, but not looking good at this point).
  19. I applied for a program with five openings, and just found out today that I was wait-listed. Is there any way that I can respectfully ask how many people are in front of me on the list? I basically want to know my for my nerves; if there are 5 people in front of me, I know to get over it. If there are only two, then I know I might actually have a chance, and therefore have a reason to rationalize the resulting worrying until April 15th.
  20. Two "No"s so far, and just got waitlisted. This sucks!
  21. I think that's a great point; it really depends on the organizational body and how they define your field of study. I always hear anything Comm-related being defined as social sciences, but of course that that can vary. Toh-may-toh, Tah-mah-toh type of thing.
  22. Yep, typically considered social science field.
  23. I'd say that OR has dropped the ball here, but from other poster's responses, it's just in grad school's nature to just suck at responding.
  24. Ok, so who submitted the admit on the results page on 2/6/11? Going crazy!!!
  25. Allow those still waiting for admission decisions to bask in your acceptance glory!
