  1. I will be working as a GA(graduate assistant) and I will be studying at DePaul University in their Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse program this upcoming September.  I will be working in their Writing Lab for about 20 hours a week and will receive a small stipend plus a tuition waiver.  There are opportunities in the program to lead undergraduate composition classes during the second year in the program.

  2. This is really good information to know.  I will be attending DePaul's Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse program and will be working as a GA in the Writing Lab for 20 hours a week.   During my second year, I will have the opportunity to teach composition classes and work as a TA.  I have been working as an English teacher at two elementary schools in South Korea for almost 2 years.  I am looking forward to teaching adults and seeing the major differences between teaching adults and children.

  3. Congratulations :).  Yeah I am really glad that everything worked out.  It can be tough applying for graduate school especially when receiving rejections.   I applied to quite a few schools and only got into a few but I got into one of my top choices.  I have learned that sometimes the one school you get into is the school that ends up being the right choice.   Good luck to you in the future.

  4. I love to go for the PHD in Rhetoric and Composition specializing in Second Language Writing because I love studying other languages and I want to do research in determining what resources second language learners would like to see in the classroom and the Writing Lab.  Plus, I want everyone to start calling me doctor haha. :)

  5. I have recently been accepted into the Master's program for Rhetoric, Writing, and Discourse at Depaul University in Chicago.  I am looking at living in Lincoln Park or other surrounding neighborhoods.   Are there any areas that people would recommend that are affordable and is pretty close to Lincoln Park?

hey! I don't know anything about the program, but I taught in the department for a while (teaching freshman-level courses)... and everyone that I knew was super nice! Chicago is also a great city, hope you have a good experience there!

Thank you.  I am really excited to be moving to Chicago.  I was just curious to see if anyone else was going to be a graduate student this fall at DePaul.

Oh, that's awesome! I did my MA at Oregon State, and it's a really wonderful program. I'm happy to be in touch with any questions you have about it or life in Corvallis, as you continue to consider programs. All my best for your applications!

Thank you.  I wanted to ask about how your stipend was and if it was easy getting around without a car.  I am thinking about buying a car for next year after I get back to the states.

  8. Thank you for letting me know.   In Corvallis, was the overall environment?  I am used to small town life and Corvallis seems a pretty decent sized town.  Is it easy to get around by public transportation or is it wise to invest in a car?

  9. I am currently applying for master's programs in rhetoric and composition for fall 2017.

I was looking at two different types of criteria when applying for master's programs

    1. I am looking for a paid master's program.

    2. I am looking for programs where you can specialize in second language writing.

Please recommend me any programs that you are aware of.
