Are many people that are going to Queens attending the meet and greet on June 16th. I haven't heard anything about it since the webinar but I'm assuming we will receive more info about it closer to the date? I was thinking it would be a good opportunity to meet each other and maybe find roommates. Also, if anyone decides to create a Facebook page for our class let us know on here! It would also be a great way to find each other and roommates before we start.

    Hey There!
I accepted my offer online as well, but it doesn't mention anything about accessing a Queen's email account .... not sure if this has anything to do with the fact that my offer is conditional (just finished my undergrad couple of weeks ago). I am looking for roommates/housing as well, so please feel free to message me!

Have to agree with @becca17 here. I work in government right now and they don't really care where your degree is from, especially for an MPH. I can see for an M.Sc mattering more due to research opportunities and funding but MPH is pretty standard. When looking at MPH programs, I would mostly be looking at how established the program is and what kind of connections/practicums they can offer you in your field of interest.

I think it's important to keep in mind your end goals and the type of degree - thesis vs course based. If you're looking to get in to research, then school reputation might matter more. However, if you want to work for the federal government (Health Canada, PHAC etc.) or a local public health unit, then I don't think reputation matters as much. I worked for the government and they could really care less about where you did your degree. My managers said that they just look for someone who has an MPH and has taken a core group of courses (e.g. social determinants of health, program evaluation etc.).
Also, SFU has a highly regarded MPH program, Queen's is well known for cancer epidemiology, and Waterloo is well known for their public health research, especially tobacco control. While McMaster and Western are highly regarded schools, their MPH programs are also quite new, so I would be wary of the "kinks" that need sorting out in these programs. So, I also think that it's important to consider the strengths of each individual school/program as well.
    That's just my perspective!

I was never told that my offer was conditional because I have already graduated from my undergraduate degree. I also have not been asked for a deposit

Hey no I haven't. I think because the offer is still conditional, they won't ask you to put a deposit until you have your final grades in.

@mariont19 As far as I could collect from the previous years threads McMaster and Guelph both send their first round of acceptance around mid to late March. People were through hearing back till May. Hope this helps. All the best for you applications.

SFU has a great program - in my opinion, and it really depends on what you put into it that determines how well you will do post-grad. Personally, I went directly into ac community development role in Vancouver and soon after shifted into a management position (an MPH definitely helped me get into it). But beyond job prospects, it's a great program with a fantastic social justice lens.

    Hi @pizza17
I emailed U of A and they said late march. I applied in November and since then I'm waiting. This waiting time is so hard to deal with.

Hopefully we all hear from them soon.

    Hi @pizza17,
I believe for Queen's and u of A, it starts from the mid March to April. But for McMaster & Western I am not really sure. I think other guys around here would be able to help with that.
    Hope this helps.
If it's any consolation I am also getting antsy just sitting around waiting to hear from them.

    Hello Tahnin,
As a Canadian PR, you are not considered an international student.

    Hey there,
The SOI for the Queen's MPH application appears just after the "Resume" section and before the "Departmental Questions". The way that it shows up is kind of confusing but there is a separate text box for the SOI, hope that helps!

I've heard from people who previously applied that certain schools like U of T or McGill can be very picky about following their guidelines for the application such as word count, I would contact the school directly just to double check with them
