He's right, NSF GRFP is under human resources. Consult p.2 of this: http://www.trianglecoalition.org/conf/2 ... lgts08.pdf I just don't know if NSF GRFP was recategorized under research since these were previous proposals. 100 million divided among several different educational programs amounts to nothing for GRFP...=(.
-
If interpreted literally, it means all remaining applicants will be funded. But that doesn't sound right.
-
So that pdf should not be looked at by anyone on this board. Because it will raise hopes in an insane manner..
-
Higgins, that budget is before the stimulus funding, as stated by the previous poster. While NSF in that budget received more funding than requested, they actually had a shortfall of around 10 million in requested NSF GRFP funding on that budget (it's in the detailed version of the budget allocation). As the result, the extra money was alloted to the other education programs, such as STEM, and math and science initiatives. if more GRFP awards are to come, they will have to come soley from additional stimulus (AARP) funding. its a shame because congress actually chose to decrease the GRFP budget and increase the budget of other educational initiatives. Anyways, good job on the analysis nonetheless. And best of luck to you!

wtf has happened to this forum?

Response to an email inquiry..=). best of luck.

No further information regarding the selection of additional awardees is available beyond what is posted on the Fastlane website. We can say that the current 950 awardees are from all 32 disciplinary panels, and are more or less a proportional distribution of awards to each panel. We do not know if any additional awards will be distributed in proportion to the applicant pool as divided into the disciplinary panels, or if more awards will be offered in certain disciplines than others. If you have any further questions, please contact this office toll-free at (866) 673-4737, via postal mail at the address below, or via email at info@nsfgrfp.org Sincerely, GRF Operations Center 1818 N Street NW Suite T-50 Washington, DC 20036-2479 got that today

Newsflash: NSF decides to fund all remaining applicants....we can dream can't we?...=).
-
I try to not get too caught up as that's a definite lead in towards dissapointment. In fact, our chances might be lower for at award now, than they were at the start,
-
Watch, ultimately 951 awards will be given out. The 951st to a random mech e...

You should call them. Sounds like you may have been screwed out of a fellowship in the initial batch, which would suck hardcore. They should put you on a priority list if this is true.
-
call ASEE tomorrow at (202) 331-3516 to find out your status, if you don't believe me.
-
I think people are confused as to what happened with the NDSEG. I never received a rejection email. I called up ASEE asking them about NDSEG alternates. She checked the list of awardees and people who had accepted, and said it looks like no alternates got it this year. Whether you got in as an alternate is not based on stimulus funding, but solely on the person ahead of you turning NDSEG down. She also told me update letters will still be sent on the 20th.
-
i never received a letter. You'll get one on monday.
-
I called ASEE. Lady said no NDSEG alternates are being accepted this year.
-
Hm...just got turned down by NDSEG as an alternate. One more rejection to go!..=).
-
there won't be anything under task unless you are selected

So the reason why they are probably not cutting half of the HM based on numerical score is due to the fact that they are considering a myriad of factors. I bet gender, high school locale, major, numerical score, and other factors in addition to funding will determine who and how many get funded.
-
No...not the director of ALL of NSF..lol. Just the NSF GRFP director...=).
-
So I got in contact with the director. Good news, everyone is at least HM (we all knew that). But more importantly, they are definitely deciding how much of the 3 billion stimulus is to be used for NSF GRFP. Good luck folks.
-
Knowing the source of the delay will definitely help some in terms of stressing out, and more importantly upcoming decisions. If we can find out that the source of the delay is the previous budget, then this is indicative of a minimal number of additional awards. This would be a definitive sign that i should pursue more lucrative internships this summer (for job security since my phd. depends on this) whereas if the delay is due to discussion on how to spend the 3 billion stimulus towards GRFP, I would be more inclined to pursue research based internships. Obviously, i do not advocate bombaring them with calls. And it is great that posters here are posting updates after calls, to inform others and to prevent others from calling with the same questions.
-
So for people calling, try to see if you can get any answers about whether the hold up is about the recent 3 billion stimulus money being used for NSF GRFP. I actually talked to the lady on the message once. I'll try tomorrow also. Once this week is over though, you most likely won't hear from me on this board anymore..=). It's consumed my life for sure.
-
That truly is the key to it all. Funding before the stimlus was not enough for a significant increase in NSF GRFP funding.
-
I tried calling the director of NSF GRFP but he hasn't been available. If i were him, I'd probably have my phone off too..=).
