  1. I agree with the posters above. I think you're better off taking a paid RA position instead of going for your master's. I don't think the debt will be worth the payoff. Work some more, and then, when you think you're ready, apply to fully-funded PhD programs.
  2. Thanks for replying! Trying to find some hope in an otherwise stressful situation.
  3. For those who have been accepted off of waitlists, were you the first person on the waitlist or further down?
  4. Is it possible you are waitlisted without schools explicitly telling you that or have people generally been notified when they are waitlisted? congrats to all who have been accepted!
  5. I haven't heard back from any of the schools I've interviewed at, whether than be an acceptance, rejection, or waitlist notifcation. My first interview was almost a month ago, and the others have been within the last 2-3 weeks. Is it safe to assume that I wasn't any POI's first choice?
  6. You can now check the portal for your status.
  7. How do I write a thank you email to my POI without sounding like a kiss up?
  8. Now that people have started interviewing/getting acceptances..what kinds of stipends are people seeing? What seems to be an appropriate amount? I know that this is all relative as cost of living is different in each city but I'm looking for a way to gauge how much stipend money is enough.
  9. For those who have interviewed and already secured acceptances, how did you prepare for your interviews? Is there anything in particular you did that you feel really made the difference for you? Starting to get really nervous about my upcoming interviews!!
  10. I think the GRE only really gets you in the door. Some schools may have cutoffs in order to weed applications out, especially if they receive a large volume of applications. But, I definitely don't think you should count yourself out if you have an "average" or even lower score, as long as you have other things that demonstrate your commitment to psychology and research. I had a really horrible Psych GRE subject test score, and I was still chosen to interview at one of the schools I applied to where the Psych GRE was a requirement.
  11. I think more than anything it is all about fit. This is my first time applying, so I cannot say from personal experience, but I think the POI will just get a sense whether or not you willl fit well into the lab. Of course this includes many factors like past research experience, independent research work (honors thesis/fellowships), expressed interest in the POI, the lab, and the school, how you "mesh" with the POI and the grad students, and questions you may pose regarding future research directions. I think once you get to the interview point, your GPA and GRE scores won't matter. They chose you for a reason. They already see you as a potential member of their lab.
  12. For those who did not get into a program last cycle, what types of reasons do you cite for that? Were you able to get any interviews? Did any of your interviews seem to go poorly? I have a couple of interviews lined up, (which I'm really happy about!), but I'm trying to be realistic about the outcome. So, I'd like to know what people's experiences have been with interviewing and not getting in if any one would be willing to share!
  13. Thank you There was no mention of any tracks-- just info about the dates and times.
  14. Ladies on a budget, where are you shopping for your interview attire?
  15. How do you know POI JR has extended all interviews if you don't mind me asking?
  16. I believe Penn State is done, although I can't confirm this. It looks like a number of people had Skype interviews in December. I also saw email invitations earlier this month. I'm curious about UMass, too. I'm thinking it's either over or almost over because the committee met earlier this week, and people have since posted invitation invites from POIs on the results page.
  17. Is anyone able to confirm if all UMass-Boston invites have gone out? It looks like a lot have been posted on the results page this week.
  18. Has anyone heard from UMass-Boston. I'm thinking it'll be any minute now..
  19. Thank you!! I've seen a couple of people get interviews on the results page but they were all from POIs.
