AnnMarie got a reaction from indexes in Fulbright 2017-2018
Surprisingly, the wait after my interview might be my easiest wait yet. It just feels all out of my hands now and I'm halfway toward finding out if I got it (3 more weeks).
I've been keeping crazy busy though. I started working out again in the beginning of January and I go to the gym 4 or 5 days a week depending. I've been working a lot as a substitute teacher. And any time I have that is going to work or working out I spend with some friends. I've also started a few new shows on Hulu and netflix. I even started a new book series (Outlander) and I've been reading it until 3 am.  So far, it has gone by fast and without stress. Thank goodness. Hopefully that holds up in the final week of waiting. Lol
I think the main thing is to overwhelm yourself with new hobbies and friends. Days go by in a blur!

We're facing the same thing with Poland! I'm so nervous! It seems like February is going by so fast.

So, I'll play devil's advocate and say that I find it dishonest to keep going forward if, at the end of the day, you know you'd reject it 100%. If you might accept the Fulbright (which I'm not sure why you would...), then stay in. I know if you reject it, it'll just go to someone else, but I'm sure that person would rather think themselves the first choice rather than the second.
That said...I'd probably stay in the running out of curiosity too, especially if you were hoping to do Fulbright later in your career, in which case, knowing how good of an application this one was may help.

They will only notify you if they are missing after the deadline listed in the email.

I had no idea ETA ones were done later! It's super easy. They will ask why the fulbright, why Poland, how do you see yourself as an ambassador, why does this make it a good time for the fulbright, how you would adapt in a new culture, and MAYBE about how your Polish is. and if they ask if you have any questions at the end, just ask something along the lines of "what advice would you give a Fulbrighter in Poland". It's not so bad!

Done. Hopefully correctly! Thanks for the tip, didn't know we could edit it.
It looks like the interview dates this year are a week earlier than last year. Hopefully that translates to knowing our fates faster in March.  Also, are there any other Poland ETAers around?

@bluet and the one other person I saw applying to Poland. Go ahead and put your names on it as well I know looking at previous years spreadsheets helped me so I know it'll help next year's applicants.

It went okay! Not perfect because nerves always get me, but I didn't totally blank or anything.  How was yours?

Congrats!  I had an interview last year and questions included "If you had a free weekend what would you do and why?" and also "what is a contemporary British issue you have been keeping up with?".  At least those were the questions that stuck out to me.  Expect a couple of questions about the program you chose and why.  Also on page 30 we have been talking about the very high possibility that a question about the current political climate and Trump should be expected as well.

Also here is a good resource (it's from 2011 but it is still useful):

I feel so bad for the refugees and visa holders being detained at our airports. I also just found out that in retaliation, Iran has banned all US residents from the country. I have a feeling other middle eastern countries will follow suit. I hope the people who applied for these countries for the fulbright are still able to go. though that seems like a small problem compared to all of what is happening. This isn't the America I know and love.

I would still practice your polish, and maybe the email depends on what you put down as a proficiency level. The "etc." could mean that they might ask something in Polish or ask you to demonstrate your abilities.

So apparently this interview is going to be a video conference! Also, I was told by the Polish Fulbright people that the interview would be held in English. Not a thing was mentioned about testing our Polish speaking capabilities. I was told that, " the Academic Committee is going to discuss with you your grant objectives, your motivation for applying for the award, how do you perceive yourself as the Fulbright Grantee/ U.S ambassador to Poland etc. ". Sounds like basic questions. I'm just worried about what the heck I'm going to say if someone asks me about Trump or the general state of politics in America right now...I don't know what to say to anyone about that. What would you guys say? @bluet, what is your project about?

Only a handful of countries do interviews. Some of the countries list it on their country page on the Fulbright website I believe. You will get an email if they want to interview you though. They just seem to ask you about your project and why you deserve the fulbright. It seems rather simple and they generally last 15 minutes.

It's been fantastic so far. I'm on a research grant to Japan; been here since September.
For those who didn't make it past the first round: I am so sorry. Do not take it personally; tons of qualified people do not make it every year. Please, apply again next year. I know a number of Fulbrighters (myself included) who didn't get in the first time they applied but have succeeded later!
For those who were recommended: Congrats! Celebrate; this is an accomplishment. Try not to stress over the upcoming months while the final selections are made. You'll know when you know. Just enjoy this victory for now.

I interpret that as any time between mid January to January 30th. I mean, there email did say Mid-January as well. I feel like the 30th is kind of an extra long speculation date just in case they can't review all of the applications in time.

Here's my thing about what reddit is saying. I've looked at the fulbright timeline from previous years and it has always said up to the 30th. But there have been many of years when the notifications go out sooner.
