  1. I got offers from Toronto and Oxford, but still no word on funding from either. Toronto I know funds at least 4 years and Oxford... well much harder to get money from them. But then all the other questions... PhD vs DPhil, 4 years vs 6, teaching experience or no teaching experience, academic career ambitions or career outside of the academy. Gah! I'm really happy but so undecided.
  2. Oh that is very good to know! It said in the letter that I needed to show I could cover first year to accept the offer, but it seems that there is another college offer coming with a financial form attached. I also read that applicants are automatically considered for a range of university scholarships, but I haven't heard anything. Obviously, I contacted the dept. and am waiting a response. All in all, I can't bring myself to say no to an offer from Oxford so I am going to get to fundraising!
  3. Accepted to Oxford BUT no funding. Hmm...
  4. They seem to be rolling them out one by one. I'm American, so getting off a waitlist at Toronto is going to be a tall order. Fingers crossed for you!
  5. I really empathize with this. I applied in 2013 and was rejected across the board. I have a few apps to go this cycle with two wait lists (which I may never get off of), and three to hear from (but Harvard and Oxford are famously difficult spots to secure). I got pretty down on myself this week about it. It's tough. Like all of us, I often feel wholly invested in this path and the waiting game is exhausting. I guess the only things I can suggest we do is try to stave off melancholia until all of the decisions are in, allow ourselves to treat ourselves when the wait gets bumpy, and keep our attitudes forward-directed if things don't go as planned. I have been trying to wrest myself of the belief that I need to continue in academia to do work that is relevant and fulfilling to my interests. I think the other posters have mentioned some nice options for continuing and diversifying your research. This is also important to keep in mind even if you pursue a PhD, as research and teaching careers are becoming a thing of the past. We all have to seriously consider what else we can do with an Anthro PhD beyond the academy.
  6. Congrats! Fingers crossed I fair as well as you!
  7. Yeah it's a bit weird. Someone accepted, another interviewed? Does this mean they aren't interviewing everyone or...
  8. Anth interviews for Stanford and UChi seem to have been sent out and there are some Toronto acceptances posted.... so I'm gradually losing hope/increasingly refreshing my gmail. THIS PROCESS IS THE WORST!
  9. Is there any rhyme or reason to interviews? I know that they help committees decide between a shortlist of candidates, but it doesn't seem like they are done everywhere or all the time.
  10. Does anyone know if they require GRE scores?
