    Hey Gik,

I have no idea. I was contacted by my PI then received a personalized form letter from the department giving funding terms. Some of it seems to depend on who has agreed to take you on as a student, so perhaps reach out to the professor(s) you indicated interest with in your application? May even vary by subfield and this determines which chunks go out? I would not give up hope yet if I were you as my UBC info is just now coming in.

Thank you, that is good advice! And congrats!!

I'll hold out hope a bit longer, but if I don't get any news by the beginning of next week, I'll contact them.

As an update: Pitt rejected my PHD offer but offered me a second masters in Security & Intelligence Studies...but the first year is unfunded.

Thoughts? I would love another masters especially since this one is so different from my current masters program (European Union Studies).

But the thought of taking on another $30k in loans kills my little old heart.

Since you already have a Masters, I think it's a bad idea to get into any debt to get another one.

This sounds like a dumb question but I just got a really lovely email from an assisstant professor at one of my top choices. He signed off with his first name but it would be best to address him in my reply as “Professor X”, right? I usually wouldn’t ask but all three of my LOR profs have told me to address them by their first names when I stayed in touch with them post graduation and I’d noted that one of my TAs when I was an undergrad addressed the prof by his first name. I’m guessing I begin w “Professor X” though and maybe later would move on to first names if prompted. Ugh, I’m culturally conditoned to feel extremely uncomfortable addressing professors by their first name lol but wasn’t sure if this was expected of grad students.

I second @ilyosha on this, though I've been culturally conditioned here in my country to call everyone by their first name haha

  4. Congrats to everyone who got acceptances!!!

No news from Northwestern as well, assuming rejection (though my hopeful heart keeps telling me I might be waitlisted haha).

Also, from what was mentioned by someone here and previous cycles, I expect Chicago's acceptances to be sent tomorrow or on Friday.

The anxiety is really killing me this time; since last week it's been quite hard to focus on writing my thesis :(.

Anyway, let's see how it goes.

  5. Hey everyone! This is my second cycle, and I am hoping against hope that I get into one of the programs I've applied to (Though I did set myself to try one more time if all goes badly).

The only thing that has helped with the waiting is now I am writing my Master's thesis and this is keeping me busy.  Lurking the forum sometimes also helps, and last cycle I met  amazing people who were very helpful and supportive. But I also learned last cycle that coming here too often just peaked my anxiety levels, so I've been more controled this year (or have tried to be, anyway haha).

And congrats to everyone who already got an acceptance!

  6. I don't believe they care much about your TOEFL scores as long as you've made it to the cutoff, as @fuzzylogician said. The fact that "admitted students typically score at least 115" does not mean the ad comm will give your scores a second look after they check you fulfilled the minimun requirement. So unless the program clearly requires higher scores, I wouldn't bother retaking it.

The only thing you have to pay attention to, I think, is the minimum score for certain funding packages. In UC Irvine, for example, you need a minimum score of 26 in the Speaking section to be eligible for funding.

  7. First of all, congratulations to everyone accepted these last two weeks! I haven't been posting lately and I.was kind of avoiding coming here because I felt somewhat sad for the negative feedback I got for this cycle (though I expected it since I'd done everything in a rush, it still made me feel bad haha). I was accepted to NYU's MA and I am seriously considering it, since it's my only offer. (There is still one result to come in, but acceptances are out and it was a reaaaaally long shot, anyway, so I'm not counting on it). Even with this bittersweet ending to my cycle, I'd like to thank you all for the support and incentive you provided. To those of you still waiting, I hope you get good news soon XD

Now I have a lot of thinking, talking and deciding to do haha.

Try going to the 'messaging' tab, and you'll see a letter over there.

Check the "messaging" button at the right end of the table. Mine still says "Under review", but when I go to the Messages section there is one message from them informing my rejection.

Thanks! I was checking it using my phone, so no message appeared. I had to use my computer for that. Anyway, I was rejected (and told to apply for their Master of International Affairs program, though I guess that might be just a standard answer). I was expecting this, but it still stings :/

I am also someone who likes to plan ahead and this has been the worst part of the whole process. Hopefully you'll be taken out of your misery by the end of this week. In the meanwhile, I've set more short term goals the last three weeks than I'd ever had before. I find that focusing on those (especially stuff like going to the gym, which isn't academic and takes a lot of energy) helps my long-term brain shut up for a little while.

    That's a great idea! XD

So it looks like today is a dud..not surprising, I feel like the mid and end of the week is usually when the action occurs.

The worst part of waiting for me is not being able to plan what I have to do next. Even if they're all rejections, knowing my results would allow me to think what to do and decide my next steps. I'm usually anxious, but the uncertainty of this wait is making it all the worse.

Stanford said official. However, they would accept unofficial transcripts for review purposes. If you are accepted, then you really must send in official ones. If you did not get an email from the grad secretary, do not worry about it.

Oh, thanks, that was what I'd thought
