  1. The program heads at BBS told us at the second recruitment visit that this year they decided to notify everyone from both weekends on the same day, which they were planning on making Feb 19, so just relax until then! Good luck! Recruitment was definitely loads of fun
  2. Yeah, I think they sent out all official invites circa January 8. Interview weekend is March 16-17. EDIT: I take that back, looks like there was a second cluster of invites on January 20, so I’m not sure if they’re done sending invites...
  3. Heh, thanks still, they're not lying when they say BU competes with top synthetic biology programs, they're stuff is legend. Also, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush!
  4. Congrats! Their PhD open houses are February 23 and March 2, according to their website. I really like their research, hopefully they're not done sending emails!
  5. Don't know specifically about BPH, but I know that for Harvard SysBio and BBS (also part of HILS along with BPH), it's a tacit rejection... :/
  6. Thanks for the info! Sounds like fun, fingers crossed!
  7. Yeah, the EAPS and civil engineering folks give it that twist, I hadn’t realized it was uncommon. Cool! See you in a month, then!
  8. I signed up for the first date! And no, I’m not sure how many they accept, although I don’t see any post-interview rejections in the results section, just wait-lists and acceptances... I’ve heard great things about the program, I know a few people in there and the environment seems great. I think the flexibility of rotating through labs across different departments (everything from Physics to the Media Lab!) and the option of having two advisors is pretty interesting. Definitely one of my top choices!
  9. Nice, finally another MIT microbiology applicant! Kudos to the visual arts, by the way!
  10. I think the odds are fairly promising at MIT, unless you clearly don't know what you're talking about or are rude. From what I've read on these forums, Stanford seems to be slightly more stringent after interviews (or maybe just less stringent before them?), but I'd expect the odds are still above 60–70%. I'll still be preparing well, but I don't think it should be worth stressing about. See you there!
  11. MIT Microbiology out! Open houses and interviews on February 16 and March 5.
  12. Right! I'll add the Boston University BME PhD Open Houses on February 23 and March 2, according to their department website.
  13. Congrats! MIT’s loads of fun, worked there for a summer!
  14. MIT BE! I see other folks got invites as well in the results section! Super psyched!
  15. Nice! It seems the file isn’t open for access, though. To answer @PickleRick‘s question, I’m guessing the UC Berkeley/SF joint BioE should send invites on a single day around the end of next week, Stanford BioE and Boston University BME should come out starting around Jan 19, and MIT BE invites should be spread out through January, starting sometime next week. Purely based on speculation from historical data, but approximate interview dates seem to be fairly consistent in terms of what week they’re sent out.
  16. Thanks, and best of luck! Maybe see you there in March!
  17. Right, I’d forgotten they extended the deadline (i think it’s actually still open)! I submitted pretty early, around mid or late November, I think. I did think it was weird they answered this early, especially it being New Year’s. Maybe they do some sort of rolling admission?
  18. Rice SSPB invites are going out! Also, happy new year everyone!
  19. Congrats @alittlecarl! Guess I didn’t make the cut; oh well.
  20. Congrats on the Columbia interview! If you mean University of Washington, you're right: public universities have a lot less positions available for internationals, because tuition (which is paid for by the department) is 2-3 times more expensive. So our chances as internationals are actually better at top private schools than public schools. Still no news on the Harvard SysBio either... now that you tell me the invites go out today, I'm bracing myself...
  21. @Izaak, I think Harvard SysBio should send out invites by the end of this week, if the trend from previous years holds.
  22. I’d expect so. I got rejected last year, and received an (admittedly very nice) email saying so. And don’t fret yet, many programs haven’t started dishing out invites. I applied to a couple systems bio programs myself, hopefully we’ll both get some news soon.
