  1. I just got official word... no funding FSU.
  2. I'm absolutely devastated. I was very optimistic about funding from FSU, but I received no notification yesterday. ( ) <------ My bubble ( *** ) < ------ My bubble burst
  3. Dear Admissions Committee Members: I regret to inform you that I have rejected your rejection letter. While I appreciate the time that it took for you to review my application and deliberate over it, I cannot offer you my acceptance of your rejection at this time. I look forward to joining you in the fall. Per usual agreements, you have until April 15 to accept my rejection of your rejection. Should you not, I will be forced to attend with full tuition waiver, a stipend of at least, if not more than, $35,000 per semester, and a health insurance subsidy equal to, if not more than, the best health insurance offered to CEO's of companies in the fortune 500. I appreciate your willingness to say "no." Please accept my sincere hopes that you have more success in the future with rejection letters. Sincerely, The rejection committee.
  4. The GRE is not a plain old ordinary test. It takes preparation. I studied for 6-8 hours/day Monday through Saturday for close to 6 months. I scored well, but it was certainly due to my preparation. I went through just about every prep book on the market (I went to Barnes and Noble and sat there with a notepad so that I didm;t have to actually BUY al of the books... yes, I am cheap). I also took a Manhattan Prep course and took at least 6 timed practice tests. This may seem excessive, but believe me, it helps. I would advise staying away from Princeton Review material. It seemed "gimmicky" to me.
  5. While I've never "chased a high," I understand your analogy. Notifications come so unexpectedly and few and far between that when your email does show one, there is an almost instant dopamine dump (at least for me). This is followed by a temporary inability to read complete sentences so I look for key words such as "congratulations" "accepted" and "regret." If the positive keywords are identified, the euphoric feeling is amazing. I then return to homeostasis and I can read the entire email in detail.
  6. Has anyone heard from South or Central Florida yet?
  7. Accepted and fully funded to UMASS! I feel terrible about continually posting good news while many of you are still lying in wait. I pray for the best for all of you.
  8. Does anyone know of any website other than bearkatlink to look up admission status for Sam Houston? bearkat link shows if the application is complete, but gives no other info.
  9. Light Brite HAHAHA Sorry, I have to rescind. It's actually "Light Bright." rainbow arc
  10. What advice would you give to undergrads or even Master's students? Mine would be this: Don't take your GPA for granted. I graduated undergrad with a 3.65 because I never felt the need to get a Master's degree. When I went on for my Master's, I was happy with a 3.75 thinking that I was done with school. Now, applying for a Ph.D. program, I am regretting both decisions. What's your advice?
  11. I'm only hesitant to say because it is so early in the admissions process; most schools haven't even reached their application deadlines. You never know who is lurking in forums such as this. Thus, naming a school outright pretty much identifies you to any graduate director, admissions committee member or grad school admissions officer - or at least narrows down the field. This process is competitive. One misstep in words can cause an unofficial acceptance to become an official rejection. I don't plan on saying anything wrong, but you never know! I will tell you that it was not either of those schools.
  12. Just got my first unofficial acceptance! Now the stress of waiting to hear about funding... it never ends! However, I have to assume if they accepted me this quickly (I assume first round) then I must be on the list for funding.
