For those who got 2.6, and only one bad review, seems really worth reapplying and using the comments to improve it! It was my last shot saddly, but I'm sure the reviews will improve my thesis once I recover from the major burn.

So sorry to hear that... I'm sending positive vibes your way and I hope you get the necessary funds for your fieldwork and eventually even a write-up grant.
I also got declined, with a score of 3. The reviews were very clear and encouraging though, and I plan to resubmit for the May 1st round. I was very optimistic about my grant applications, and it's certainly hard not to feel discouraged by these rejections. But it's what it is, and I just have to learn from the experience, consider all these reviews seriously, put my grant writing cap back on, and reemerge with a better application.

Same here! Last update on 23 March. They might be on track for 15 April, fingers crossed for all of us!

 
 
I am not so sure. Judging by my university, most people shifted to online methods with little or no costs associated to fieldwork. There's also the challenge of justifying the research (and ethics) in the middle of a pandemic. I might be very wrong, but I don't think the number of applications was crazy high?

We'll know by April 16 for sure (two weeks before the May 1st deadline). But yeah, the wait is killing me...

Same here. I think they didn't take applications in May, so I guess that the number of applications will be higher (but so will the overall funding amount). I try not to think too much about it but it's nerve-racking... 

Some of my friends say they got Gates rejection emails today, while I still didn't receive anything...I am afraid my chances are really slim. Best of luck to everyone! Fingers crossed~

Ditto! At last the wait is finally over! Well done to everyone. Don't feel too down about the rejection. I have followed the stories of some  Gates Scholars/alums and discovered that they didn't even get shortlisted the first time they applied! I think if we're all  good enough to get into Cambridge - one of the best institutions in the world - then we're equally good enough to go out and do some great things in the world.

Don't despair, a guy from the TSR forum called the Gates Trust and they said they will send invitations until next Monday.

Almost had a heart attack. Got an invitation for an interview.

I checked last years thread and it seems like the interview invites were spread over a few days. Hopefully this could mean something good for a few of us? 

How many days of offers based on your research? Did you see a pattern?

The Americans were notified on December 13th and 15th and the internationals on feb 27th and 28th (Thursday and Friday from my memory) ... No pattern detected. Not keeping my hopes up but I guess it's not over until it's over 

That's the right attitude! Let's hope for Friday and Monday this year!

Hello! Be expecting interview invites soon! Got mine this morning (social sciences). 

Gates Cambridge Scholarship interview. I was admitted in December and my department didn't require an interview.

I graduated with a 3.8 from a top 100 but not anything near a top 50, 25 or 10. In fact, my University has placed only one Gates scholar other than me and that was 15 yrs ago. I have national achievements (both in undergraduate and in my career). I also have a pretty extensive history of leadership and achievement in my leadership capacities. I have taken a few international fellowships on a range of social justice oriented issues. I have been working in my field for 3yrs. 

I assume international students will start to hear back from Gates soon...
