  1. Knowing yourself is important. As Sun Tzu said: “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
  2. I feel you. I felt that Northwestern was my "best shot" of all schools to get into (that's just my perception) and now I am expecting only more rejections ... :/ @RevTheory1126: Sleep is for the weak, right? Good luck everybody!
  3. Hope dies last (aka when the rejection emails arrive). In the mean time, stay strong.
  4. Don't give up on GWU, I heard their waitlist is fairly active so it could still be that you get an offer.
  5. UofT is notorious for not funding students and Vancouver is expensive while UBC is not in Vancouver per se (its outside, basically its own city) it is still the greater metropolitan area. But UBC is a really good school! Good luck!
  6. Same, I take it in the L column (or is it the R column for applications?) and just focus on the the other schools that are left. As somebody who studies in Canada, what are your Canadian schools? UofT, UBC, McGill?
  7. From my knowledge it MAY get adjusted every couple of years to not completely lose touch with the cost of living and inflation. Especially in expensive places like NYC. But for example UWashington in Seattle only offers around 18k (which is not enough to cover cost of living), while Texas A&M offers around the same amount but there it is more than enough to cover cost of living. So funding is only loosely related to cost of living. I think the bigger question for schools is how much can they pay due to their endowment
  8. In case you want to compare your funding offer with those of other students or you want to know how much you can expect (ball park estimates) you could simply visit the website phdstipends.com and search for your school and program. But be aware, those are self-reported funding offers. Yours may vary. So the OSU funding from last year was around 24k. UT-Austin ranges between 17k and 27k.
  9. As far as I know (through experience and friends' experience) funding is usually "save." So schools can tell you how much you can get almost directly after your official admission. What OSU is doing is therefore (probably) OSU-specific.
  10. Same here. Not for UT-Austin, but for others. Horrible feeling, right? What I do to put my mind at ease is work and hang out with friends as much as possible. Do fun activities (eat chocolate ) or so.
  11. I'm good at giving advice yet very bad at following it. I stress about these things myself But right now, I am rather calm as results from my programs won't come for another week or so. You guys, hang in there. And stay calm. You cannot change anything by being anxious. Go hang out with friends, have long brunch breaks (I go eat with several friends starting at 11am to about 130pm to take my mind of everything)
  12. Don't worry. That can simply mean they didn't get to notifying you yet. Might be in an instant that you get an email with congratulations. Just relax. What happens, happens.
  13. It does indeed. Maybe its another hurdle you have to master to "actually" get in?
  14. Is it just me, or is it weird that you don't get an email that you got accepted? I mean, just a standard "Your status has been updated. Please check the online portal." would be enough.
  15. Congrats! But you didn't get an email that your status changed?
  16. I'm sorry if I offended you, but neither Higgs University nor Boson University are real places.
  17. Congrats. I take it from this that you're also waiting for a reply? What's your subfield?
  18. Well, the Northwestern ones could be true as N'western's results are usually coming at this time
  19. Due to timing and the wording of the comment, I would also assume that the Boston U one is also a troll. Or does anybody want to confirm that one?
  20. At least they know how to write Higgs-Boson... so, good for them! What I think is even better is the 3.00 in the Writing section of the GRE that apparently is enough to get into Boson University. That seems to be a very low ranked school
  21. Same. @changeisgood, @VMcJ: Did you participate in TAMU's recruitment event at the beginning of December? EDIT: I just checked my emails and I remembered I got an email weeks ago that my file was complete and would be reviewed "soon." Idk if that is what you got @changeisgood but I would not read too much into something like that.
  22. To my knowledge, not all professors at OSU do interviews. It is apparently only a hand full that interview prospective students.
