  1. It obviously depends on your interests, but I know one thing I've considered (because of my interests in policy) is working at a think tank, on the Hill, or with a similarly-organized institution. Those places are always looking for experts in fields to do the research they need to carry out policy proposals.
  2. I have yet to hear from them, as well. I'm guessing they send their rejections much later?
  3. @demog I don't want to give you false hope, but perhaps a sliver of it...I was accepted but am leaning more and more away from going. I've talked to a few students there and it seems like it's really not a good place to be right now, particularly for me (a WOC) and my interests (race/ethnicity-based).
  4. I applied to Princeton and Harvard and haven't heard anything. Michigan is my undergrad institution, so I have friends in the department and it doesn't seem like anything has gone out from there. They seem to be a late notifier in most departments.
  5. @theorynetworkculture @draco.malfoy Thanks y'all! To provide some context, I ask because I currently have acceptances from UCLA, UT Austin, and UW. Still have a few more schools I'm waiting to hear back from, but I'm starting to think about how to decide which one to go to...
  6. I know it may be a bit early to think about this, but I'm curious if people know about the rankings of programs in terms of discipline. For someone interested in cultural and political sociology, as well as being comparative/interdisciplinary, what are the "top tier" programs?
  7. Yes, I was accepted on 1/27 via email. The recruitment event is March 9th & 10th.
  8. Hi there! I'm a woman of color with a focus on race and identity. I have thought about similar things, but have been reassured by the growing number of women of color in academia. I think it will certainly require you to build a strong community around you to lift you up as you do this work, but it will also be an opportunity to better understand the histories and narratives of your community in a more powerful way. I'm sure I'm starting on a challenging path, but I feel that I am excited about it enough to get me through. Hope this helps!
  9. Hi everyone! New poster. So far I have been admitted to UT Austin, UW Seattle, and UCLA. I've been rejected from Berkeley and UNC Chapel Hill. Still waiting on 9 more schools. My query: UT and UW offered subsidization for flights to recruitment events in their initial acceptance email, but UCLA did not. My flight to UCLA would be the most expensive, so I'm curious if anyone knows whether or not they offer subsidization, or if it would be rude to ask? They're one of my top choices, so I definitely want to make it to the recruitment event, but the ticket will cost upwards of $500. Thanks!
