  1. Just out of curiosity, is there anyone interested in genopolitics?
  2. Congrats for Cornell applicants! So, U-Mich remains..
  3. Many thanks for those who shared nice info on stipends. I have one question to ask. I got accepted by a PhD program and they offered me a partial funding package (partial remission of tuition for the first two years). For me, the rest of the tuition is such a burden that I will have to consider other programs with a full-funding offer. The program is my first priority and they say I'd better negotiate on my financing(I guess the person I am emailing with is the administrative director of the department). I was kind of surprised at the fact that I can (and have to) negotiate. So, I clarified that the program is my first priority but I feel burdened by the amount money not covered by my financing package. The administrator relied their funds are all committed at the moment but there is a chance that adjustments are made as it becomes closer to April 15. So, what should I do? I made it clear that the program is my top priority and I feel burdened by the uncovered tuition. If it is a 'negotiation', what could I offer them?
  4. How is Duke rejection notified? My portal only keeps showing no notification sign.. And, congratulations for those who got in Columbia!
  5. I have a dumb question to ask, what are the odds one is finally admitted without getting accepted at the first round of emailing?
  6. I can tell you that Rutgers sent out their first round of acceptances at least more than a week ago.
  7. What's going on with Duke? There is no 'view decision' on my screen. Is it a troll on the result page?
  8. In my case, I have a few acceptances, some with firm funding others without. And, I am currently weighing among them although I'm waiting for many others including my top priorities. Pending applications put aside, it is still a tough decision to make, as you said. Of course, definitely, it is a lot better than having no offers in hand. I find myself desiring more and more when one desire is fulfilled.
  9. Very informative! Many thanks. I think I have to visit the school...
  10. It's not quite an answer to your question but a question to you. Do you think speaking with the department on our financial concerns will help? I'm considering either keeping silent until 15th April or voicing my financial concerns by emailing and attending the visit. I appreciate your time. Thank you!
  11. Does anyone know whether a funding package can be 'upgraded'? Say, if some applicants who are offered full fundings opt for other schools, and then, these full funding packages might go to those who previously got only partial funding packages. Does it happen?
  12. Oh yes, congrats! Maybe, they sent out acceptances with out an interview at the time you got your acceptance. And, they offered an interview around the same time. So, I guess they are thinking of sending out formal letters early next week. Thanks for the info. Btw, are you from the US? I am wondering if they interview only internationals (my case)
  13. I had an interview with my POI at MSU and was told that the result would come out early next week. Anyone hearing from MSU? For Davis, I got an email detailing fundings. It includes living costs with a combination of department stipend and TA ships but does NOT cover non-resident supplemental tuitions for the first two years. They say "once you Advance to Candidacy (typically at the end of your third year) your Nonresident Supplemental Tuition is waived for the following three years." A little disappointed but expected it. Anyone who knows about California school (Davis, in particular) fundings? Please share some info.
  14. So, which schools are we expecting this Friday and early next week? Duke, Penn State, UMN?
  15. Oh, international security. Mine is political parties/legislatures in developing democracies. Certainly a great program. Waiting for the finance decisions and feeling a little nervous. And, I'm wondering why they split their acceptance notifications. It gives me false hope for those schools which already gave out their decisions via personalized emails (like U-Chicago, today) Maybe I'd rather give up on them.
  16. Congrats! I didn't know they could hand out acceptances several times! May I ask your concentration?
  17. Plus, anyone who got admitted to Davis, Rutgers, Arizona, SUNY Albany? Let's share some information on those schools.
  18. I am a bit depressed at the Chicago acceptance news. Congrats for those admitted! Anyone waiting for U-mich, Duke, PSU, Notre Dame, and UMN?
  19. The interview was done with one of the professors and about my theoretical/methodological interests and experiences in the U.S. The professor told me that I was admitted to their short-list.
  20. I got an email from the graduate director on 31st January.
  21. Hi everyone. I got several acceptances and rejections and wanna share these. * Accepted: University of Arizona(TA or RA / 15000$ per year for 5 years + one-time 5000$), Rutgers(TA or RA / 25000$ per year for four years + summer mentoring offer 3000$), SUNY at Albany(funding not yet decided and will come out in the next few weeks), U.C. Davis(funidng not yet decided and will come out in the next few days) * Interview: USC, Michigan State. * Rejected or implied rejections: GWU, Emory, Austin, Northwestern, WashU, Berkeley And, I am wondering 1) if those who got admitted to Davis were notified of any information about funding. 2) if there is anyone who is having an interview or already has done it. (Is this for some kinda double-check after actual decisions have already been made or for dropping the candidates from their short-list?
