I'm planning to base mine off of exposure to different clinical experiences, a well-balanced curriculum (which ones seem to really have a good balance between didactic courses, clinical exposure, and research and lab time). Also the feel of the program... if I can see myself fitting in with instructors and students more at one program compared to another. I've only been to one interview so far, but I was VERY impressed by the program. It wasn't what I was thinking of ranking #1, but as of now, I would rank it first hands down. Of course, that might change after my other interviews

Same! Also, the name on the top was not my own so it led to further anxiety and freak out...

I just got my interview offer from Minnesota as well! I submitted my app Dec 1st but my last LOR was submitted 12/14. I'm on cloud 9 right now, first GC program interview invite ever! Hopefully not the last too Stay strong and positive, everyone!

So far the UC course is the least expensive I have found. Bay Path is offering one this summer for $1200 as well... yikes!

Meeting with a GC tomorrow that's also an assistant program director. Anyone have any suggestions on questions I can ask that maybe aren't run of the mill like "what do you do day to day, what do you like about being a GC" etc. This will be the 5th GC I've met with, and I met with the program director for the same program so I just want all the information I can get! I am really nervous to ask if I can keep meeting with her too, because I feel like I need a good connection with a GC to boost my app. I just feel like I will get shot down (the pessimist inside me speaking), so wish me luck!

Good to know, thanks for sharing! I have a decent amount of wet lab experience in molecular biology, but from some GC's I have talked to their research was more clinical so I was kind of worried my research wouldn't help me out. May I ask if you got accepted to a school for this fall? And what other schools you applied to?

Can I ask what kind of research you did? Was it more laboratory work or like clinical trial based? Anything else you can remember about applying/interviewing at those 2 schools?

Great! That's good news to hear about the interviews, because that is one of my biggest concerns about it. Especially good to hear since I see you had interviews at Wisconsin and Minnesota, 2 of the schools I am planning on applying to. Thanks for the advice

Hi @KeepSwimming2017, thanks for the reply! The cost is definitely on my cons list haha, but my husband is in medical school currently so what's a couple $20,000 in debt lol? But it is really good to know you think the MSc helped you get into a GC program. Thanks for the advice

Do have of you have another master's degree (not genetic counseling)? I'm thinking of applying for an MPH program. I know that I'll want to do it eventually, but now I'm starting to think "why not now?" since I have some time to kill and it could only boost my application, right? Interested to hear from you all!

I'm in a similar situation as you. I am so nervous! My test scores and GPA are above average, but I do not have traditional advocacy experience (I have some from different committees I was on, but I am not sure admissions people will accept my explanation or not). I have some clinical shadowing, very minimal, but I was a nurse assistant so hopefully that counts for something with patient exposure and experience! I am so glad to see that someone else only applied to one school this cycle as well (Wisconsin) due to some family stuff and not being able to relocate. Good luck to you!
