Fall 2017 Acceptances/Interviews/Rejections Thread
limonchello replied to csot's topic in Sociology Forum
On the results page it looks like at least the first batch of acceptances for UCLA around the 27th of Jan and some rejections came out today. As long as you're not rejected, I suppose you'll have to just keep playing the waiting game! -

I think that's the perfect plan,... innocence is bliss! Any other opinions because I don't want to be misleading you either! -

Completely! I don't think it would come across as a complainer - you're honestly worried about the application and you really want to go there and you can show your concern in the email or w/e. Totally unfair, and you deserve some sort of response! -

They don't sound like they were a lot of help, I would call or email the department. I don't think it would hurt, especially if you have the email etc that says the date you submitted it! -

Just wanted to share from my reading of the 2016 Acceptances, Interviews, and Rejections thread - Last year on Feb 18 quite a few people suddenly got in and were celebrating when, 'In a cruel twist of fate, Columbia PhD acceptances yesterday were a clerical error. They didn't even apologize in the correction email' ( link ) and I cannot even fathom! Thought I'd share their woes, as that forum reads like a book of dramatic ups and downs which fills my wait time quite nicely as it's obviously easy to relate to. -

Anyone claiming WSU Acceptance? -
Great advice from @rising_star and @draco.malfoy! In addition to the other comments, you really need to decide whether you're taking a quantitative or qualitative approach. You mention "subjective" which makes me feel like you're leaning qual, but qual isn't necessarily subjective at its core. You could go either way and it does totally come down to your research question. What do you ACTUALLY want to know? Based on your post I feel like you haven't taken a social research methods class (at least not recently) so I would pick up a textbook (my preference is Social Research Methods by Bryman, but it may only be UK based) and explore the topic of how to formulate a research question, how to begin reviewing the literature, how to find gaps etc. Good luck!

It was good to hear about your experience, and I'm sure @kris10mb will agree that it is helpful! It is hard when we don't know exactly what will happen, but as @c11m07 said, whatever happens its for a reason! Let's stay positive through our woeful distress

I would definitely suspect this Thurday and Friday to bring forth more results!

Any idea when their visit weekend is? I have to fly back to the USA from abroad and I don't know how I'm going to coordinate multiple trips. HMM I wonder if it will look fishy If I have New Mexico book a 2 week trip! -

Everything seems so quiet today, looks like only UC Boulder sent out responses according to the survey. Another day waiting! -
I feel you on the pain of applying for school money-wise - I applied for 8 programs total plus the GRE and it added up so quickly and painfully. 4 Does seem a bit low, so hopefully if nothing works this year (I bet something will, though!) go ahead and cast a wider net as you said. You have more time to explore your interests and develop you application as well which is always beneficial! Good luck!

Just discovered the forum and am catching up on what's been going on. I applied to Notre Dame, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Washington State, UC Santa Cruz and Hawaii. Was accepted to the University of New Mexico today but haven't heard from Arizona or Notre Dame which hopefully just means I'm shortlisted without a decision yet. Crossing my fingers! Congrats to everyone who has heard so far! Waiting 6/7 Accepted 1/7 Declined 0/7
