I am waitlisted at Upitt and I just have to tell myself that this wait be be super long and I may not hear back for a long time. I am trying to tell myself this over and over again :) I wish I knew how many people were waitlisted and I may reach out to ask at some point. It is a strange feeling to be so in between.

Sorry I don't know how to work this too well.

Any new news regarding acceptance? Still waiting on UNC Chapel Hill and University of South Carolina

Seems like UNC is taking for ever. I know they have admitted a few students. If you did not get contacted

earlier most likely you are on a wait list. I applied but accepted another offer.

What do you like about Upitt, got my MSW there?

  4. I had some funding issues about 10 years ago when I first started. It was because I did not visit, lived very far away and I did get what I was told in writing. I ended up getting scholarship money on the back end. That maybe an option for you. I saw recently you have to have a high GPA for schoolships. Look at the section on the website about fellowships. I don't know the details, but there is money there. I was on campus recently so saw all the promo for fellowships, look at the webpage. I know there is money for MSW/MPH, aging, all MSW programs have funding for child welfare. Sometimes students do apply for programs because they don't want to focus on that population. Get the money, it does not matter. Once you graduate and get you social work license you can work with any population. For example if it is money to work with older adults, apply to that fellowship. You can work with older adults in that field for a limited time and switch later. Hope this is helpful.

  5. if you have not heard back, but have not been declined you are still being considered. Some schools don't tell you they have you on a waitlist. They don't want to turn you off, I am experiencing this myself. I am in one PhD program, but waiting on another. I maybe waiting for someone else to decline so I can get in or if I decline one of you may get in. It is a chess game at this point.

  6. I spent a lot of money on my MSW. Look into getting a graduate assistantship in programs that have them with the school you want to attend. Sometimes they may have tutition waivers attached to them, you will get a monthly stipend. For example look at cultural studies programs or other Liberal arts programs. Professional programs usually don't provide enough support. Going back for my PhD in social work, that is free.

  7. Hey, I have been looking  at gradcafe for years. Sorry I am posting late in the process, but I have seen some post I would like to respond to. Admissions to PhD programs are done in stages for some universities. People that received  notice in Jan most likely received a University wide fellowship. This is money that will fund students from the provost office or graduate school. This saves the SW programs money because they do not have to pay to fund these students. I know this because I have worked at a university and I spoke to a lot of faculty through this process. So if you have not heard back from a school and you see in the results others have does not mean you are not getting in. I see people have been accepted into a program I want to attend, but I know for a fact all the decisions have not been made. The director of the PhD programs will tell you the general date they will make decisions. I see people have gotten into a program I want to attend and the director looked me in the eyes and told me decisions will be made later this month. Not sure why they lie, I guess so they will not scare  off other students they may want but they did not nominate for university wide fellowships etc. Just sharing my thoughts about the topics that have been posted.
