Sigh...anybody else keep refreshing the award list, hoping it'll say something different?
-
Wow, it actually is up. Well, not Honorable Mention.
-
Yeah, that's real convincing...
-
Zomg, only an hour until the server goes down and they post the rezults!
-
You're about the fourth or fifth person to mention this over the past week or two...it means nothing. Your password expires after a year, or something like that.
-
Direct link fails. Just go to the main page, then "About the Program" on the side, and then click "Statistics and Past Recipients".
-
Or "roasted chestnuts". I guess it could be a euphemism for "bullshit artist"...

It's already been mentioned on this thread that said school won't reverse decisions for NSF. I think it's more about keeping a reasonable student:faculty ratio than it is about money.
-
Well, finally got rejected from the school I was waitlisted at. I guess they either weren't waiting on NSF, or figured NSF wasn't going to be releasing decisions anytime soon. In any case, I don't have a reason to obsess anymore.
-
Yeah, it would sure be swell if we had time to get that type of thing straightened out before April 15th, wouldn't it?
-
Yes, you have 5 years in which to use the NSF award, and you can defer it for any two of those years.
-
If you need to flaunt your financial package, you're likely compensating for your other package.

Never count on being good at math/science to help you get laid.

Harvard, Minnesota, Princeton.

Who ever said graduate admissions have to be fair from year to year? There's different candidates, and different funding situations. If they are indeed getting a significantly higher number of funded awards this year, isn't that unfair to people who applied last year? Aren't graduate schools across the country cutting back on how many students they take because of the economy?
-
I'm sure I'm not the only person on a waitlist waiting for other people to make their final decisions. Also, it's not that hard to pick a conservative number, award that many fellowships this year, and carry over any surplus to next year.
-
Like I've already said, I don't care that much about me winning. I'm on a waitlist, and it's getting close to the point where even if I get accepted, I won't have enough time to visit said school and will have to turn them down. If the reason I don't get a final decision until so late is because the people ahead of me are waiting on NSF, I think it's appropriate for me to be pissed at NSF for not having their shit together.
-
NSF doesn't change the fact that they can only take on a few people in my subfield each year without overwhelming the two professors taking on students.
-
Based on earlier people's posts, lots of schools will do that, and the one I am currently waitlisted at was expressly mentioned as one that does not do that.
-
I don't think having outside funding will make that school magically accept me. They've apparently already rejected somebody off the waitlist that was (presumably) in a different subfield, so it really just depends on what the better candidates in my subfield decide. If I do get in, I'm planning on making the 12 hour drive out there within a day or two of when I find out.
-
I've already got a fellowship from one school, and I'm waitlisted at another (and decided against the rest). I'm hoping NSF award decisions being released will make the select few people ahead of me finalize their decisions, so I can either move on with plans at the first school or have time to properly assess the second one.

Somebody on here asked about that when they called, and they said it was definitely a mistake and wouldn't happen again this year.
-
Anybody else here posting things without much content just because they want to see this thread hit 50 pages before the results even come out? Because I know I am... postcount++ edit: bonus!, pagecount++

And it's back again. Hopefully something is happening behind the scenes...
