  1. I was an applicant from earlier rounds and was once admitted to Rutgers but waitlisted for funding as well. I got a funded offer on April 14 as people finally began to decline offers. I also declined it, and then the offer moved to the next on the list. Things will move very quickly when it gets closer to the April 15 deadline. I believe Rutgers's top choices are very likely to decline the offer, so there's still hope. Hang in there, folks!
  2. I am also going to Emory! Looking forward to seeing you in the fall!
  3. Acceptances you had: Rutgers, Emory (off of waitlist) Research Area: Culture, Social Capital/Social Networks, Medical Sociology, Qualitative Methods Final Choice: Emory Reason: Got off of the waitlist last minute!! I emailed Emory's DGS a week before April 15th, and he told me that I was the top waitlister and asked me to hold off making any decision about Rutgers. So I waited until April 15th, and finally got off of the waitlist! The sociology department of Rutgers is also great, but Emory is a better fit for me. I love the friendly faculty there (the DGS is extremely nice) as well as the location and weather of Atlanta!
  4. Yeah I have talked to the DGS and my POI. They said they are still waiting to hear from the student ranked right above me, and told me to be neither too negative nor positive about the outcome. I don't know what I can do at present. I can't wait too long, since it would mess up my plans.
  5. Hey guys! I was admitted but still waitlisted for funding, and now I face a very troublesome situation where I have to submit my master's dissertation by early April, while the decision of funding has yet to come out. If I can know the decision from Rutgers early, then I can decide whether to postpone my graduation and apply to PhD programs again next year. So please, if any of you decide to decline Rutgers' offer, please do that ASAP. I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks! The waiting game is just killing me ;( Anyway, good luck to all.
  6. Best luck!! This is also my first time of application, and I find I am so naive on everything, including school selection (yeah I was thinking that I just wanted to attend top 30 programs), LOR (thought it might not be important if I wrote perfect SOP and WS), and a lot of other things. I cried all night the day I received 4 rejections (around Feb 24) and got a personal email from the professor of Yale saying that I was not in. But now I feel better, it's not the end of the world. Learn from the lessons (although very expensive ones) and keep moving. Best luck to all of you!! p.s. I am waitlisted by two schools, so the only thing I can do is to wait.
  7. Alright, just received an email from Yale to check website. Rejected, as expected. But they just make us wait too long...And now I am happy that I can move on;)
  8. Admitted by Rutgers but waitlisted for funding. Hope good news will come. But it seems that every year Rutgers will give full funding to only half of those who are admitted... Also waitlisted by UMich and Emory. God! How I wish that I can go there!
