  1. Skype interviews MA programs at Sotheby's and Christie's New York campus I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I am applying to MA in art business at Sotheby's and MA Art, Law, and Business at Christie's, both New York campus, for fall 2019 I'll be graduating next year in 2019 with the undergraduate degree in History of Art and Archeology from France. I've now just startied the application process, papers, administrative works, etc to ensure a satisfying outcome and I really hope this effort will not result in vain. I'm having tremendous difficulties finding an advice on the whole MA application process, especially the Skype interviews. Since I will be in France, I won't be able to do a face-to-face interview in New York, but will probably be doing the Skype interviews. I've heard that Christie's have a really tricky Skype interview, where the interviewer give you a restricted time to read an article to write a critique on, or write a commentary on the artwork without the label, and then for the round two Skype interview, you have to do a simultaneous Skype discussions with other multiple candidates on current art market issues, etc... The whole Skype interview seems a little daunting to me, especially for a foreign student with purely academic background like me. I'm having trouble finding someone who's gone through the Skype interview for MA application process of Sotheby's and Christie's New York. I really would like to know how the MA application journey was processed, especially the Skype interviews. Any information on either would be extremely helpful. I'm desperately asking for any tips/ advice on both schools, since I don't know anyone personally from my French university who went through this process, and the informations are very scarce from the insiders from Sotheby's and Christie's. Thank you very much in advance.
  2. My main focus is art market and art auction, I'd like to jump right into the real world scene. I'm applying to Sotheby's and Christie's New York Campus, and searching for several other schools as well.
  3. thanks for sharing the information. I was looking for a similar advice . Thanks.
  4. Hello , I'm planning to apply for Master's at Sotheby's and Christie's 2019-2020 New York. I will be finishing my undergraduate degree in France next year 2019, and I'm quite overwhelmed by the whole application process for the Master's degree in New York. My french university grades converted to US system aren't that superior, they are pretty mediocre. (considering the US system and French system are totally different, my grades are Okay in French standard) Nonetheless, I'd like to give it a shot at Sotheby's and Christie's for Art Business / Art Law programs, which are my dream school . I don't know anyone who has been accepted to the program, having nobody to ask for an advice, I'm going through a really difficult time with the preparation process, especially the Skye interview. I've heard that the oversees students are required to have a several skype interviews. I've heard that the interviews not only include personal questions, but also some unexpected pop quiz and test, which the interviewer gives you one hour to read an art related article and write a review on it, or identify and write a commentary of the art work that has no caption . I will be eternally grateful for the advice from someone who has gone trough the master's program at Sotheby's / Christie's. Thank you in advance.
  5. @skydancer@modmuse yeah, the statistics that Sotheby 's / Christie's give me are too good to be true, they say up to 80 ~90 percent of graduates end up in major galleries, museums, auctions houses..but I'm not sure if those sources are credible. I'm mainly looking for schools in New York City, so I've also looked at NYU's MA in Art Administration program, but according to website, they says that only "35 students" enroll MA Art Admistration program each year. ( http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/art/admin/enrollment) So I'm not sure if art administration in NYU will have the alumni connection as solid as Sotheby's /Christie's ... Well, yeah thanks so much for the comment anyways...! It's really difficult to decide the school, because they offer pretty much similar experience/programs.
  6. Hello everyone, I'm an international student from South Korea and I'm applying to both Sotheby's institute and Christie's for Master's degree in New York. I don't have a normal educational background, and to explain this briefly, I did 2 year neuroscience of undergraduate in a top 30 university in US, and then I quit, because of my personal and family problems at that point of my life. I worked in the korean enterprise for 2 years, in field which was not related to neither in neuroscience nor art. Then I went back to my undergraduate education, this time not Neuroscience in the USA, but degree in Art History and Archeology in Université Paris Sorbonne, in Paris, France. Since the Master's program in Sorbonne is extremely academic and doesn't prepare me at all for the "real world", I really want to get my Master's in Sotheby's or Christie's in New York. I've done many research between Sotheby's and Christie's , and my questions is the followings: 1. size of entering class 2. 3 semesters equals how many weeks ? I can't find the calendar exact which explains the exact duration of programs. 3. accumulated number of alumni since the beginning 4. number of international students I know that both institution have great program, and I don't see a great difference in the level of reputation of both Sotheby's and Christie's. Only factors that I will be based on for my decision will be those 4 elements mentioned above. I'm really happy that I've found something that I'm genuinely interested in and have passion for, after all these years of struggling with family problems and my academia in the states and Paris. Thank's advance for any thoughts/criticism/ advice/comments..etc !
