I've started writing and editing my statements of interest. I wonder how many hours do you guys spend to write your statement? Some said 8 hours is the minimum... -

Fall 2019 Clinical Psychology Canadian Applicants!
JoyJoy replied to FallGO's topic in Psychology Forum
Hi TrindStarr, Thank you for sharing! You have a really strong background. Since this is your second time applying, I wonder whether you could share about your experience about your application last year? Anything we could learn from it? Thanks! -
I've been told that your connection with the POI is the most important thing in your application. But my question is how do you make the connection? and to what extent? like meeting in a conference or collaborating together on a project? Did anyone receive an offer not because of previous connections?

I emailed potential POIs 3 weeks ago. Only 2 replied, one said she won't take new students and recommended another prof I should contact. Another said "I will take one student, but I will only interview those who are shortlisted, look forward to reviewing your application" What do you guys think about the second prof's response? Overall. I was a little bit disappointed because 1) 5 profs did not respond at all; 2) I was kind of hoping they would say something like you seem to be a strong applicant etc...

Hi Piagetsky, Thank you for your input. Are you attending OISE now? I think I've missed the open house, I'm not from central or eastern Canada... -
Fall 2019 Clinical Psychology Canadian Applicants!

Good to see someone is starting a thread for the Canadian applicants! Here is my background information: I'm currently a master student enrolled in a development psychology program at a Canadian university. My GRE is okay, so I won't retake. Undergraduate GPA: 3.80 out of 4.33; Master GPA: 4.1 out of 4.33. Strong research background: 3 publications and 10 conference presentations. Dream program: UWaterloo, but will also apply to Oise, Western, Dalhousie, McGill, Calgary, UBC, Queens. Most of the POIs I emailed didn't reply me either... ... but I'm fine with that. First, I didn't ask questions in the email cuz I don't have any (they all clearly state on the website that they will accpet students). Also, they don't really know me and there is no point to spend time replying to a stranger. -
How long does it take to receive POI's responses?

Good idea, but some profs may take the summer off......anyway I guess it won't affect much of my application -
How long does it take to receive POI's responses?
JoyJoy replied to JoyJoy's topic in Psychology Forum
I've sent out three emails last week, it has been 4 days, no reply... Probably because of the long weekend (The Thanksgiving holiday in Canada). In my emails, I expressed my strong interest to work with the professor, briefly stated why I'm interested in applying and attached my CV, I honestly didn't have any questions. I just said something like look forward to hearing back from you.... So, does it sound like the prof may not respond to me because there is no specific question? -
I sent out emails to POIs that I'm interested in working with last night, it's nerve-wrecking to wait! I wonder how long does it take on average for you guys to receive a replay from POIs? Thank you!!

Thank you very much. I do think I need to spend time to prepare for other application materials rather than retaking GRE. -
Clinical Psychology GRE scores (Applying for Canadian schools)
JoyJoy replied to JoyJoy's topic in Psychology Forum
Thank you! My last 2 year undergraduate GPA is around 4 and for my Master courses, I got 3 As and 4A+. So I guess it should be fine. I have to stop pursuing perfectionism -
Hello, I took my first GRE test last week, my scores are: V: 159; Q:162; still waiting for my writing score. I want to apply for the PhD Clinical psychology program in most of the universities in Ontario, Canada (e.g., Western, UWaterloo, Queen's). I checked a few schools about their GRE requirements. For UWaterloo, the average scores were: V 156 and Q157 for the 2018-2019 academic year; V161 and Q157 for the 2017-2018 academic year. For Queen's university, the average were V158 and Q155 in general. I think I have a strong background in research. Three publications, 2 first authors and 1 second author; 2 first author manuscripts under-review; and more than 10 conference presentations. My goal was to get a 160+ verbal scores, I studied very hard, but at the same time, I am also swamped by other tasks and responsibilities. I'm not sure whether I should retake the GRE to strengthen my application. I am very hesitant to take it again...... English is not my first language, so I have to spend extra time and efforts compared to native speakers to study it. Look forward to hearing your advice! Thank you! Joy

Hi Hopetree, it's hard to tell. it may get awkward if you volunteer in their lab but end up being rejected. -
Hello guys, I'm is applying for the OISE MA program at Toronto, and here is the official website's information about deadlines: Main application deadline: November 15, 2017 Main document deadline: November 15, 2017 Program start date: September 2018 (Fall Session) To guarantee consideration for admission and financial support, applicants are required to complete the online admissions application (including payment) and submit all supporting documents by 5pm (ET), November 15, 2017. After the main application deadline After November 15, admission to some programs may remain open. A closing date will be posted in the following chart. Information is updated often, so check regularly. The deadline to complete the online admissions application (including payment) is 5pm (ET) on the closing date. All supporting documents must be submitted within seven business days of applying. If not, the application may be considered with documents missing. I'm just wondering what does it mean All supporting documents must be submitted within seven business days of applying. Does it mean all documents can be submitted 7 business days after the application deadline (Nov. 15) or everything has to be submitted by Nov 15th 5pm? One of my profs has not submitted her reference letter yet. I am very panic. So please help! Thank you!!!!!!!!
