  1. My form changed the status from "Optional" to "Required" and I have no idea what it means because I still haven't got any decision letter. To any Harvard admitted here, did you get an official decision letter by e-mail?
  2. I see the same form but there is no decision letter. Seems like it is just some standard form...
  3. Neither U of Chicago's application web-site nor Harvard's opens today. Do you think they are uploading the results or am I just paranoid? Also, is there somebody else here admitted to Northwestern?
  4. I am sorry to hear that you POI stopped responding, it always upsets me. But may be it's also an intense period for the faculty, so he/she will reply even if you are not accepted. I wanted to claim my admission at Northwestern, got a letter from the Director of Graduate Studies on Friday. It's a very early notification but I am so happy that I don't have to think about it anymore! It was my top choice and I am very overwhelmed to know that the faculty choose me with a very specific topic. My research focuses on the intersection of African diaspora art and the art of the Soviet Union. I also applied to University of Chicago and Harvard; I will wait for their decisions but I am sure I will go to Northwestern as it seems to be just a perfect fit for me. I am also very excited to work with my POIs at Northwestern, I am a big fan of their work and believe that it will me an amazing academic journey for me. @almakan I am curious what is the focus of your research, could you share it in pm? Good luck to everyone guys!
  5. If there are any ppl who applied to Northwestern and got an interview, could you tell your field?
  6. Hello there! There are not so many people here but I still hope that may be you can give some useful general advice regarding PhD programs on African American art. My biggest concern for now is my background. So I have a B.A. in Sociology, and now I’m finishing my M.A. in North American studies at the Freie Universität in Berlin. During my Master’s I focused on culture and visual studies, attended some courses in Art History, but I don’t have a solid degree in Art History. However, I worked in a museum of contemporary art and volunteered at some European biennials of contemporary art. During my Master’s I did some research and wrote papers about African American art and photography, and I’m going to write my Master’s thesis on Kerry James Marshall. So at some point it looks consistent for me, but I worry that it is not enough for applying for PhD in Art History, because of the lack of a degree in Art History. Though I found many combined programs, such as African American studies and Art History in Yale, or African American studies at Princeton, I can not understand what are my chances as a European student with such a background. I will be happy to get your opinion, whether I should try to apply for Art History or stay in the field of American studies. Also, since I’ve never studies in the US, I’m curious if I can write directly to OPI, and if so, is there any better way to do that? I guess they receive so many emails from potential candidates, don’t want to look dumb and make a bad impression. If somebody can share you experience in PM, that would be cool. I would love to speak to any of you. Thanks!
