  1. Really?? My academic adviser recommended for me to apply there. He thinks it would be one of the best places to study european contemporary philsophy. Do you know anyone who is in the program recently?
  2. Hi, I am a graduate student in Seoul National University majoring in philosophy(Ph.D.) My main interests are existentialism and phenomenology. Since I want to study Kierkegaard, Heidegger, and Levinas more in depth, I am planning to apply to several Universities in the U.S. UChicago, and UPenn are nice places to study Heidegger and Levinas. It seems New school is also a wonderful place to study my interests in depth. I am thinking of applying to these schools. I heard that in Boston College, students could complete the Ph.D. and masters degree in 5 years. So some people recommend applicants to apply to MA which could be finished in a year. They say that it would be less stressful because they would have two years to prepare for the Ph.d exam. However, in the case of New school, I am not sure if I have to apply to MA program or Ph.D. program. I have no idea which would be the better choice for me. And I am concerned because I might not have a chance if I apply to Ph.D. program. I would be glad to receive your pieces of advice. Thank you.
  3. Thanks, since I don't know how things go on in the U.S., your comments were really helpful. I will consider your recomendations.
  4. Thanks. I deeply appreciate your thoughtful advice. It is really nice to meet you who will become a Kierkegaard sholar. I probably should check some more details before I apply. Thanks again and please keep in touch.
  5. Actually, I am taking summer classes in Boston College this summer. I think it would be wonderful for me to meet professor Vanessa Parks there. However, I have no idea how should I write an e-mail to ask her to see me. And, I am a bit worried because I am not sure what sould I saw if I meet her in person..^^;; Any good Ideas? Thanks for reading my post.
  6. I am planning to apply to several universities(M.A and PH.D) this fall. Including Chicago University(Ryan Coyne), Boston College(Vanessa Parks), Oxford University(Joel Rasmussen), University of Leeds(Mark Wynn) and Yale University(Noreen Khawaya). Since this is my first time, I would like to know how to contact professors. Do I have to send a wirting sample? How long does it have to be? And what should I wirte in e-mail to give a good impression?
  7. Thank you so much. Your reply helped me a lot. I think those are also perfect places to study Kierkegaard and Heidegger. Thanks again, I really appreciate your help.
  8. I am a graduate student majoring philosophy. The title of my master's thesis is "Different perspectives beteen Heidegger and Levinas on death" However, these days, I am really interested in Kierkeggard. I want to study the relationship between Kierkegaard and romanticism. And thinking of applying to Oxford University(Theology and Religion), since there is an expert in Kierkegaard.( Professor Joel Rasmussen). And I also think Boston College is wonderful place to study phenomenology and existentialism. To study Kierkegaard, I really need to leave this place as soon as possible since there is no opportunity to study him here. So I am thinking of applying to about 8 Universities. Could you recommend me suitable places?
