Would be great for my mental sanity if ND, Indiana & Virginia announced this week...
-
Anyone claiming the Delaware admit?
-
Congrats!
-
My subfield is IR (Asia). I want to study power asymmetry in China-Southeast Asia relations, in particular how Southeast Asian countries will engage in deferential diplomacy with Beijing in a future China-led regional order.
-
HAHAHA
-
Yes but global affairs PhD, not political science
-
I’m still waiting on IU-Bloomington, ND, UVa, GSU, CUNY & Delaware after 1 rejection (GWU) and 1 non-funded admission (Rutgers). I know most of the schools I’ve applied to will probably not make decisions before mid-February, but the waiting is indeed driving me nuts. Good luck to all of you out there.

Please evaluate my application - need to make a decision ASAP

I don't think you can continue working full-time while doing a PhD, and keep your mental sanity. I work at the Asian Development Bank and PhDs are only required for very senior positions, if at all. -

Do you want to continue working in development? If so, I would go for the MPA not a PhD. -
Unlikely but also hoping for UVa
-
It does sound like a good sign. Best of luck
-
Congrats! What’s your subfield?
-
Sigh... thanks!
-
Anyone heard from UVa, IU-Bloomington, Notre Dame?
-
The 2 schools I’m looking at are both located in or near major cities. Thanks!
-
Noted – thank you for the tip!

Hi everyone, What if you’re a bit older, not looking for TT and after your getting your PhD just want to teach/research for a few years to just enjoy working on the subject matter, without necessarily making a career out of it? Is that even possible if you end up at a lower ranked school? Cheers
-
Thank you!
-
Yes. Good luck, hope you get in
-
Yup. I got rejected. No email, you have to check on the site.
-
Congrats to both! I guess I'm out if I don't get an interview today. Oh well, 2 down 6 to go.
-
Definitely. And I was working full-time too when I was preparing for the test. Overall took 4-5 months, for a very low quant score.
-
Very encouraging, thank you for sharing
-
Yup. And then my final quant score was even lower than on the zillion practice tests I took.
-
To be completely honest, I think the test is utterly useless. I’ve been a journalist and editor for 15 years and I got a 4.0. Not to mention the math of course. My point is that standardized testing in my opinion is just a way of screening applicants, but it doesn’t measure your true skills. If my low GRE scores prevent me from getting into a funded program, so be it, life moves on.
