  1. Your advice was very insightful. It really helped me rethink my decision. Thank you so much!
  2. I will definitely ask Strawn about this. Thanks for your insightful input! I have been working on the Pentateuch mostly, but I am ready to explore more topics as time progresses. Have you decided which school to attend? Thank you, sacklunch! NYU has graciously offered me a summer stipend but only for three years . . . I am not sure whether a summer funding would help me much survive in NYC, tho. I have actually considered Brandeis as my top choice because of "fit" between my research interests and those of professors there. But, at the same time, I can agree with Kuriakos that "fit" and POI are not everything. The name or reputation often plays an important role in getting a job. I think Brandeis is certainly a top-tier program to study HB, but I become "uncertain" when it comes to a comparison with its peer institutions like Emory or JHU. Would you also prioritize "fit" over "name," or vice versa?
  3. Thank you so much, Rivkah! That’s really helpful! I have heard Strawn and LeMon have done some wonderful research on ANE iconography, but I have also heard that Newsom will retire very soon. I have been trying to find some information about job placement from Emory but could not find it. Would you mind sharing some recent placement record with me? Once again, thank you!
  4. Thank you so much, Almaqah! I feel so grateful for this opportunity. I am still weighing my options—Brandeis, Emory, NYU. Could you offer me some insights on my decision-making?
  5. Just a heads up, Brandeis decisions are out. Accepted to their Bible and ANE program!
  6. I think I can claim it at the behest of my peer from our department. He has not make any decision yet. I will let you know when he decides (of course, I will ask for his permission).
  7. Thanks, tankis9! Your insights are most appreciated!
  8. I am also genuinely interested in seeing the list for Hebrew Bible (perhaps with a focus on NELC or Semitics)!
  9. Thank you so much for your reply, Almaqah! I have literally been checking my application website every hour, but whether fortunately or unfortunately I don't see any change yet. I guess I feel a bit relieved for not being rejected yet. Have you also applied to Brandeis this year? Btw, congratulations on your acceptance to UT-Austin. It is really an excellent program!
  10. Hello everyone! I am so glad to find this discussion thread! I have recently seen two rejection posts from Brandeis. I am wondering if they have already extended offers or interview invitations? Since I have not heard any word from them, I do not know how to interpret this... Thanks in advance for your help!
  11. Hello everyone! I have seen two rejection posts from Brandeis. I am wondering if they have already extended offers or interview invitations? Since I have not heard any word from them, I do not know how to interpret this...Thanks in advance for your help! May the odds be ever in your favor:)
  12. Almaqah Thwn, My primary interests lie in Pentateuchal criticism. Since I am a big fan of documentary hypothesis, Chicago and Brandeis are my top choices (of course, yale too).
  13. I am also applying to Emory for HB this application cycle. A friend of mine currently studying MTS in HB at Emory told me that the recent placement for PhD graduates has been somewhat bad contrary to what it used to be in the past. But I think this phenomenon is not restricted solely to Emory but applicable to every school (perhaps certain exceptions to Ivies/top-tier programs) due to a competitive job market for humanities PhDs. Even though Newsom is near retirement, I think Emory still remains strong with Wright, Strawn, and Gilders. If you don't mind me asking, what schools are you currently looking at? I am interested in applying to Brandeis, Chicago, Emory, and Notre Dame. Best of luck to your application this year!
