  1. Last year I was trounced with a low 7 score and it hit me hard. I hit the grind and doubled the length of my CV in the intervening year, and this time I got a 16/20 and a CGS D. It feels like a narrow victory, but now I have a moment of peace that, dare I say it, feels earned.
  2. Thank God. I’m off the waitlist. I had adjusted to the idea that I wouldn’t get it, so I got to feel the rush of a pleasant surprise. Going to shoot high next round... Good luck to everyone who wasn’t so lucky this round, in this competition and others. Next time. ✊
  3. Maybe they'll wake up one morning and say "whoops! We forgot to send half the awards!" ?
  4. The lesson I’m taking from this is that the signal-to-noise ratio is questionable, and an absurdist whimsy may be a more appropriate attitude than earnest striving for next time. I’ll still try to get the free money.
  5. HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE??? This is making me feel disillusioned about SSHRC. Maybe I’ll submit the exact same thing next year and the winds of luck will be in my favour this time?
  6. Wow, my score was dismal. 7.35/20. Feedback would have been very helpful--I'm not really sure what the issues might have been. Two co-authoured publications, good fit with the department and supervisor, assurances that the letters were very strong, and I got a lot of green lights from reviewers on the proposal. Good thing I applied for OGS as well (as an afterthought--I was getting a lot of good feedback!) Side note, if you're in London, chances are your results have been mailed.
  7. I'm actually in the same boat. I have a paper due tomorrow and another on Sunday. I thought I'd let myself walk the news off a little, but maybe reason will prevail here. Maybe a raincheck on that! I wouldn't mind more keener friends at Western.
  8. It feels like Thanos just snapped his fingers in here. @TheorySis and @displaynamesarehard, pity party at the grad club at 5? Edit: also, anyone else at Western! Even the more fortunate.
  9. Just checked my status on the Western student portal. It says "Not Awarded." This is not good.
  10. Thank you! ? I wonder why Western in particular was delayed.
  11. Thanks for the tip! I was about to wander over to the graduate student affairs building to bug someone. Why!?! ?
  12. Good luck, fellow Westerners! I’ll let you know if/when I hear anything. Same boat over here.
  13. Supposedly the portal for Western hasn’t been updated yet for any of the programs, according to my grad program advisor.
  14. I’ve been lurking for months. Hello, all you familiars. As I’m reading through all of these comments to the tune of “I don’t know how I’ll make it through financially if I don’t get this SSHRC,” does anyone else find themselves kind of harrowed by the fact that the *majority* of people don’t? Some people don’t even apply—I’m imagining the majority don’t. But HOW? That’s (at least) four of our years below the poverty line, and then future prospects either start to snowball from there, or they don’t. I am probably banking far too much on succeeding this round for my own good.
  15. Soooooo I'm still listed as an alternate. Would not mind a pile of cash from the heavens, but I guess I won't know until March 31st. If I'm lucky.
  16. I just created an account so that I could say yes, I'm in the same boat. How many people would have to wait until the last minute and then decline in sequence for there to still to be unclaimed awards at this point? I bet the decisions are made, and someone forgot to press a button. Nonetheless, there's just enough hope for me to feel tension...
