I've deferred my enrollment to a PhD program to fall 2019. When should I start applying for funding? I also noticed that many of the fellowships don't have applications and you have to be nominated. In that case, what can I do as an incoming grad student?

For the articles i have a few. My senior thesis was on Japanese Manga and sexuality, so I'll look into those authors. As for the schools, I've only seen schools that have either one sexuality professor or one professor that interested in Asia but on a different topic than mine entirely. As for the PhD, I want to be able to travel and do anthropological research. I'm also considering teaching.

So I applied to several graduate schools last fall and got into the University of South Florida and the University of Tulsa. However, I had to defer my enrollment for both to fall 2019 since I didn't get any funding. I only have a bachelor's degree but wanted to go straight to do my phd if possible. My GRE scores are 149 Verbal, 146 Quant, and 4.0 Writing. I'm planning to take the GRE again to improve my score. My field is cultural anthropology and I'm interested in Japan, sexuality, and religion. I wanted to apply to a few more schools, but Im not quite sure where to apply or what schools give good funding. All suggestions are welcome.

Oh I see what you mean. I was a bit sick the day i took the test, which might have had some effect on my scores. I'll definitely contact my POIs ASAP and see what they say. Thanks both of you for the advice.

Thanks both of you. As for experience I've worked with an archaeologist in the field before, have worked with two museums, and have assisted with an archaeological conference. I would love to take the GRE again in January but the issue is that the deadlines for my applications are all due before this. I called some of my schools admissions offices and they said that would accept new scores after the deadline. However, I'm worried this might make a bad impression.

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I've been looking at the post on GRE's around here for a while and wanted opinion's on my unofficial GRE scores. I'm also an undergrad anthropology major and am applying to PhD programs for next fall. I'm applying to Duke, Princeton, Stanford, University of Tulsa, University of Maryland, and University of South Florida Unofficial scores: 149 Verbal and 144 Quantitative Undergrad GPA Overall: 3.765 on a 4.0 scale Do you think that if I do well on other parts of my application like my statement of purpose would I stand a chance at getting in?
