  1. I was mostly talking about loans and grants that a school’s financial aid office gives, not any departmental scholarships or waivers because as it’s already been pointed out, UTD has very few of those and I’m not out of state anyway.  I just wanted to see if anyone has heard about aid packages from the financial aid office because that’s all I’m waiting on.

  2. It's a brand new program so I don't believe you will find any current students in the SLP program.  I would suggest emailing the program coordinator for program specific questions.  However, if you have questions about the school or the area as a whole, you can message me!  I know people who are familiar with the school in general and know a lot about the area.

Congratulations on your acceptance! :) I'm a current postbac at UW, and I spent a lot of time talking to faculty/staff and current students about the 2 tracks when I was working on my application. Obviously I don't have as much info as someone who actually went through the Med program, but maybe I can still answer some questions? Feel free to send me a message (is that a thing on here) or respond with specific questions you may have! At the very least, I've lived in Seattle for awhile now and am happy to answer questions about that aspect of choosing UW. (Spoiler alert: I love it here, but it is indeed expensive.) If I don't have answers, I'll ask around - one of my fellow research assistants is about to graduate from the Med program. Let me know! :)

Hello!  I messaged you with some questions!

  4. If you’re planning on pursuing a PhD in the future, or your interests are more medically oriented, that’s usually when you can consider some of the higher ranking schools with higher tuition costs.  I applied to a program that will only end up being about 20,000 in tuition throughout the length of the program, so very cheap compared to my other options, but chances are I won’t accept it even if I am accepted because my interests are heavily medical and the program just wouldn’t give me what others could.

  5. For those that have already finished their application to the University of Washington, how did you complete the area of knowledge section where they ask you to put the estimated number of completed lecture hours for each ASHA area of knowledge?  Are we expected to seriously know an exact amount for this, or just an amount we think fits?

    Thank you!

I guess one of my biggest problems when it comes to this is that I do not want to do research tracks... I'm only really interested in clinical!

You could still use the same idea, but instead of mentioning the lab, mention what exciting clinical implications certain faculty or labs' research provides.  Talk about a certain professor or lab's findings that really gets you excited, especially if it's in an area you mentioned you want to focus in.

  7. If you’re interested at all in research, search for research labs with faculty from your program.  There should be a faculty page that might hint at it, some are more blatant if others.  If not, a quick google search with your school’s name and research lab should suffice.  Pick a lab you think you’d be interested in working in and just touch on that for two or three sentences.

  8. Which programs are you applying to?  University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas at Dallas, University of Arizona, University of Washington (MedSLP preferred but applying to both), Portland State University, Rush University, Temple University, Case Western Reserve University, New York Medical College, MGH

    Where are you from? Texas!

What are your biggest concerns about applications?  Cumulative GPA!  I switched majors 2 years into school and came from a science heavy background.  My cumulative GPA is a mere 3.5.  Everything else is good: Major GPA is a 3.9, last 60 credits GPA is a 3.85, GRE is 156 Q, 159 V and 5.5 AW.  I have a lot of research and therapy experience thanks to a great undergrad education, and even experience working in schools and hospitals.  It's just that stupid cumulative GPA.
