  1. @LeeSav I will send you a message.
  2. @SocialResearcher I was rejected from UPenn. I hope you hear good news from them!
  3. I was accepted to WashU! @SocialResearcher, I saw someone posted they were accepted to UPenn. I hope it was you!
  4. Congrats @SocialResearcher!! That is wonderful news! I saw someone was accepted to UofM. I hope it was one of you guys on here!! :-)
  5. @AlexusSWRK I liked advanced standing. It was nice to be able to finish in a year and to not have to repeat foundational courses. Parts of the program were fast paced so you have to be ready to produce work quickly. The school tells you that it is not possible to work and they strongly discourage you from doing so. I worked part time the entire time. It was a lot of juggling but fortunately my employer was flexible in giving me hours on days that I could spare. The stipend was winderful in that it helped cover a significant portion of my housing and basic necessities.
  6. @DisasterBin not yet. I will be leaving tomorrow morning and arriving in the late afternoon. I hope I’m ready for the cold!
  7. @SocialResearcher Wasn’t me... If it helps, their website states: Please note: Interviews and campus visits are not part of the admission process for all PhD applicants. Contact will be initiated by the program after files have been reviewed.
  8. Hi all, This is a good read on application acceptances: http://www.thegradstudent.com/the-waiting-game-graduate-application-purgatory/ Hang in there! As the author states, "it's not over until it's over." If you have not received a rejection letter, hope is not lost. Wishing us all good results!
  9. @hungrygrad that is so tough! Hang in there. Wishing you receive good news
  10. @hungrygrad any updates? Some schools invite at different times due to funding sources. I.e. university wide fellowships vs. school funding...
  11. No problem! Let me know if you have any other questions
  12. @LeeSav i completed the advanced standing MSW program so my timeline will look a lot different from yours. From our program only 4 were accepted, though the number of accepted students for the 2 year program was bigger. Our application was due in June and interviews were done within a few weeks to a month after. We were notified within two weeks I believe, but that was because we started internship soon after. I can’t recall specifics though, since it was a bit ago. By the way, the CSULB field staff is very nice. I highly recommend you reaching out to them directly for specific answers to your questions.
  13. @SocialResearcher that’s wonderful! Good luck! Hopefully this means you will hear good news soon! :-)
  14. @LeeSav Speaking from my own experience at CSULB, I was given the option to apply for CalSWEC once I started the program and was in the internship exploration process. We were given a internship preference form in which I was able to designate my interest in applying for the stipend program. After that, there was a separate application and interviewing process. I am assuming many schools are similar. The program is a great opportunity but can be very competitive. If you are passionate about child welfare and can show that you are committed to a child welfare career, that can make you a competitive applicant. Best of luck. CSULB is a great, competitive program. Because of the affordability of the program, the stipend covered the cost of my MSW.
  15. I was just offered acceptance to the University of Washington!!! I am so surprised!!
  16. @Naabekwe Congrats on the interview! How exciting but nerve wracking right?! Panel interviews can be tough! Good luck! Hopefully it all goes well for us :-)
  17. Congratulations @MCIChris!! Some schools prefer applicants have an MSW and may not accept an equivalent program. Some schools also state on their websites that if you don’t have an MSW and are admitted to the PhD program, they will enroll you to obtain your MSW in the process. Congrats again! Best of luck as you wait to hear from other schools.
  18. Thank you @SocialResearcher! Very good advice! I will have to practice these questions. They said the interview is with a few admissions committee members, but maybe I can call to try to find out more information.... Thank you again :-)
  19. Hi all, I received an invitation for a 20-minute skype interview with the University of Washington for next week. Has anyone had an interview with a school before? Any tips on how to prepare? I do not do well in interviews so I am so nervous! Thank you!
  20. @DisasterBin It sounds like it...though from looking at other forums, the admissions processes seems to be done in steps for some schools. I am not sure if Brown falls under this... Rejections for applicants that do not qualify are done first. Acceptances for top picks are done after (Maybe in late February for Brown?) and then based on any declined offers, another set of acceptances for those on the waitlist. @SocialResearcher Thank you! I am proceeding cautiously as it does not state it is a formal interview and it sounds more like a campus visit. I am not from the area and was hoping to visit the campus, so this makes it a lot easier for me to actually go. I wonder if this could be their strategic way of getting people out of the area to visit before, so that if an offer is made, they can make faster, informed decisions. It could speed up their admissions process and give them certainty about incoming classes earlier than previous years... I emailed to ask for more information but because it was so recent, no response yet. I will keep you all posted. Best of luck to all of us as we continue to wait!
  21. @DisasterBinYes! I just checked my email and received a message inviting me to visit the campus on February 9th to learn more about the program...The email doesn't say that it is a formal interview though...Have you heard anything about this? It also says that they will make decisions about admission in Late February.
  22. @DisasterBin Great points! @MCIChris It makes it challenging that several schools have deadlines on the same day! I saw UofW extended their deadline until December 10th though it was originally on December 1st...I wonder if they did not have enough applicants. No feedback here from schools. I hear that some contact applicants for interviews toward the end of January. I am not sure which schools though...
  23. @DisasterBin How do you like Brown? You have some outstanding faculty there! Your stats sound strong also Many of the faculty I spoke to stated it is not necessary nor is it expected for applicants to have publications, though it can be helpful. To me, it sounded like they value that someone understands what the research process is like and that they have used this to inform their decision to pursue a PhD. I imagine your research experience can certainly speak to that. In terms of the practice experience, I was told the preference has to do with the CSWE requirement that certain classes only be taught by someone with 2+ years of post MSW practice experience. The schools I spoke to indicated they had a good mix of straight through students and returning students. What I have heard over and over again from faculty is that, in the end, the fit is most important. You may have excellent stats and practice/research experience, but if you do not fit with the program, you may not be accepted. Best of luck to us! February is around the corner!
  24. @SocialResearcher I was wondering myself where everyone is at....I actually came across GradForum cafe by chance... I am glad to hear you speak so highly of the program. I have only heard wonderful things about it so I imagine it must be a very competitive application process. Do you know if they set up interviews or is it a straight acceptance/rejection? I realized mid-February is a bit over a month away! Best of luck! You sound like a very strong applicant so hopefully, you will be accepted! I will keep you posted
