My ideal scenario when I set out with all of my applications was to get the Fulbright award and an acceptance to a good PhD program that would allow me to defer until the 2019/2020 school year! (I was very optimistic at the start of fall last year.) Right now I'd be happy to get in to just one of the places I sent out applications to!

I just found out last night that I'm a semi-finalist for a Fulbright ETA in France for the 2018/2019 school year! I know this isn't really the place for this, but I've been bursting with excitement after the past weeks of excruciating anxiety about not hearing anything from grad schools. At least I have some good news to tide me over, and maybe now I can actually put my focus back into the thesis projects I've been neglecting while refreshing my email

Another France ETA semi-finalist here would love if you or @whale_shark would post if you hear anything about France's procedures for selecting finalists. My understanding is that there's not really a difference, at least not one that I've heard of from the grad students I've talked to at my undergrad University, which is public. From what I've heard it seems that there's sort of a standard fellowship that is offered, and it doesn't really differ between in-state students and out-of-state students.

It looks like in previous years they've sent email acceptance letters. I'm not really sure whether anything will change on the status website first, though. Don't really know where I would find that out either, unfortunately. I'm waiting and hoping for a yes from them as well! It also looks like it might be another week or so before we hear from them based on their history in the results archive here. Edit: Looked further at their results on this site, and it looks like *way* back they used to do phone calls to let people know, but that was in, like, 2009. The most recent PhD response was an email. Back when they did phone calls, though, somebody said they saw their admissions status on the website before they got the call.

I would imagine Boston sends responses pretty late considering their due date was only this past week I believe. I'm sure it will be forever before I hear from UConn too because their application isn't even due until February

@HomewardBound hey, that's more than some of us have heard! I'm still at total radio silence from all 6 schools I applied to. Really hoping things will pick up this week.

I actually had a somewhat similar conversation with one of my faculty mentors. We were talking about my applications, and she just felt she should warn me that, when she was in graduate school, almost all of the people who burned out and left the program before completion we're those who went straight from undergrad to a PhD program.

I'm happy for whoever got the good news from Michigan and Penn!! But also...my anxiety about this process is now even further off the charts than it was before. Haha

I at least know IU Bloomington is closed for MLK day, so I assumed most others would be too. We'll probably start hearing from schools tomorrow at the earliest! I'm fairly certain Penn will announce their decisions this week ?

BTW @Carly Rae Jepsen I see that you applied to IU Bloomington! I'm currently an undergrad there. The French department here is great, and I love it so much!

Yeah I feel the same. I have no idea what to expect for admissions. I think I found Duke and UMichigan's acceptance rates for the French department, but all of the other schools I applied to seemed shrouded in secrecy. But I guess I should hear back from Penn soon and UMichigan not long after that! As for the rest, only time will tell...

I'm jumping on this thread a little late, but I just finished my application last month and am anxiously awaiting all of the responses! I applied to Penn, University of Michigan, Boston, University of Connecticut, Duke, and Rutgers. I am getting a little nervous about one of my recommenders. She was very enthusiastic about writing letters of recommendation for me, but for some reason she is submitting each letter one at a time. I've had to email the week that each application is officially due to remind her. So far she has submitted anything late, but it's kind of a hassle to remind her every time a recommendation is coming up to be due.
