I think the cross-national deadline is until mid-April (the 15th or so). So there might be a lot of chaos in week or two prior to that with people making last minute decisions/ finally choosing been several offers.

I think OISE gave around 3 weeks or so from when they sent out their offers at the beginning of March, so I was wondering if York had a similar timeline.

If anyone was curious about Waterloo, they just sent out their rejection emails!

I didn't get a rejection email, and quest says no decision yet. I was short listed and did a preliminary interview but wasn't invited to Interview Day. So I figure my rejection will just come a bit later. Anyone else in the same boat?

Acceptances / rejections were sent out Tuesday (Feb. 13th), as a friend of mine received a rejection that day. This was for all the people who were invited to the interview.

For Guelph rejections have been sent out just for those who were interviewed? I was not interviewed so I am assuming rejection but haven't gotten anything formal yet.

    Hey Anne,

That's cool but, we are applicants and honestly, we don't really care about spam emails form schools when every email we get we are hoping is an invite...so I don't care about their grad week unless it is AFTER I get an invite of some sort, and at that point, I am all ears and fully committed!

    I agree!

Is everyone here applying to the MA programs? I did my MA years ago and am now applying for PhD - anyone else in the same boat?

It's more of a canoe, adrift in a sea of hopes and dreams :D

I also have a masters (though not in clinical - in counselling) and all programs have made it clear that they would prefer to admit me at the masters level. I think most programs work this way except for one program out east (I think it’s UNB) that does direct entry into PhD. On the rare instance they may accept you directly into the PhD but I don’t think this happens too frequently.

If your masters is in clinical I don’t know what that would mean. It might be possible to go into PhD but it’s also possible that they may ask why you decided not to move on to the PhD since most, of not all, clinical psych programs in Canada aren’t masters terminal programs.

hope this helps and good luck!!!

Some schools give you the option of listing different programs as your first and second choices. In those cases, it might be helpful to list PhD as your first choice and MA as your second choice, so if they don't want to admit you to PhD maybe they will still consider you for MA.

I contacted the POIs from schools I had not heard from.  It was a very positive experience.  Mostly, they gave me feedback as to why I was not being selected and possible improvements I could make for next year (if I reapply).  One gave me very detailed review of my application and general advice for both applications and scholarships.

Last year, after interviews, I also contacted a POI.  She let me know that I was on a short list, but that offers had gone out.

For the most part, I think professors understand how important and stressful this experience is and don't mind an inquiry or two (at least in my limited experience).

Yes absolutely no harm in doing this after rejections are confirmed. I'll probably do this too to get some insight.

i would email the grad secretary first

I think this is the best way to check on the status of your application if you feel like you need to! You don't want to seem to your POIs like you lack patience. I know how painful the wait is. I just feel like emailling probably won't help and if anything it just makes you seem impatient. A lot of schools are sending out interview invites this week, so keep your fingers crossed!

My understanding is that Waterloo doesn't have an interview day like Western does, so you may still be accepted without an interview, but I could be totally wrong! Getting an interview would obviously still be a good sign.

I hope it depends on the POI.  But mine made it clear that the next step was an in-person interview :/

According to the results page, two people received interview invitations already, but it looks like most people find out if they've been rejected by late February / early March.

Onsite interview invitations at Waterloo? I haven't seen anything posted about this. Preliminary interviews were early this month (I had one), but I'm pretty sure onsite interview invitations have already gone out.

I'm wondering about Guelph, York, and Western because their interview days are so soon. So based on that and the timelines from previous years, I feel like we should hear by tomorrow or Monday at the latest.

I agree. Last year interview invites went out Jan 27th or 28th. I also know that the faculty had not met to shortlist people yet as of Monday, although I don't know when they are meeting.

Thank you, this is helpful. I figured it would be today or tomorrow that invites go out based on past years. I will wait until Monday or Tuesday before I start worrying
