Woven baskets characterized by a particular distinctive pattern have previously been found only in the immediate vicinity of the prehistoric village of Palea and therefore were believed to have been made only by the Palean people. Recently, however, archaeologists discovered such a "Palean" basket in Lithos, an ancient village across the Brim River from Palea. The Brim River is very deep and broad, and so the ancient Paleans could have crossed it only by boat, and no Palean boats have been found. Thus it follows that the so-called Palean baskets were not uniquely Palean. A. The following argument is flawed for numerous reasons. Primarily the argument is based on the unwarranted assumption that Palean baskets were imported from Lithos, an ancient village situated across the river and not the other way around. The argument is based on the assumption that since palean boats have not been found, the people from lithos might have exported it using their boats. The argument fails to take into consideration that there is a consummate chance that the people from lithos might have used the boats to import it to their city.Had the argument provided the information of the place where palean baskets first found, then it would have strengthened the argument. Again, the argument states that since both the ancient cities are separated by river, wide and deep, it is assumed that lithos people had boats. Since, there is no mention of boats found in lithos, there might be a tertiary village;the actual source of palean baskets; connected to both the villages. If this is true, it would weaken the argument to a greater extent. Because the argument makes unwarranted assumptions, it fails to make a convincing case that Palean baskets were not uniquely Palean. A.In order to understand the major characteristics of a society, one must study the major bucolic cities where the roots of art and culture are deep. The people in the major cities, with parochial mindset, have easily amenable characteristics which are inspired by the characteristics trending in other foreign places. The pure rustic characteristics are made obscure in the eyes of younger generations living in the major cities. Some part of the characteristics may be derived from the major cities, but the remaining part is a derivation of the culture adopted in the village areas. Since cities are made from development of villages, to know the important characteristics, one must study the latter part.
