  1. Not sure if this is true now, but I was waitlisted last year and it was thought that the waitlist isn't committee-dependent, but based on scores alone. Good luck!
  2. I got lower than that last year (12.3) and waitlisted. This year with basically the same application, 14.7 and the Bombardier. Hang in there!
  3. I just checked and results were posted for mine.
  4. Thank you so much. I have had a lot of bad luck recently and dreamed last night that I didn't get it so my jaw is on the floor.
  5. My university just emailed to say I got the CGS-D Bombardier. I got waitlisted last year and am completely shocked/thrilled and will probably spend the next few hours sobbing with relief. My university is cutting some funding programs so was anticipating some very lean years otherwise or possibly having to drop out for a while.
  6. I'm really peeved at the lack of transparency. I mean, yes it's great to be waitlisted, but when you read about students applying with the same applications year after year and getting wildly different scores, and then you have no idea what your rank is on the waitlist, it feels a little too random for comfort or hope. They could at least publish data with ranks, cut-off scores and committees so that we could figure out if we had a chance in hell of getting a grant.
  7. Gah, so it's impossible to even be hopeful about getting off waitlist! I really think if they have the info they ought to let us know. Also, it's not very transparent!
  8. I was waitlisted with 12.55, my partner got funding with 12.8, and I've seen people on the other thread who've said they were offered with 12. FYI.
  9. How do we know what committee we're with? It's really confusing!
  10. My partner got SSHRC funding with 12.8, and I was waitlisted at 12.55 this funding year. FYI anyone wondering about their rankings. And he will be buying me a beer.
  11. Oh wow, TBay, congrats on your award!! Holy cow that's good news. I was rooting for you! I'm coming back to university after many years away and so while I have a couple of books published etc. my grades (from the UK) weren't stellar way back when. I was pretty upset but I'm over it now. It's awkward coming back to school. I don't know about waitlist, some with higher scores were waitlisted last year and didn't get it. I'll email them though!
  12. I'm waitlisting with a score of 12.55
  13. Hell yeah. Lotus is good. I always get that awful guy with the swords in his head on Facade Tarot, so I've been keeping well away from that site. But I basically just keep doing them until I get an outcome that doesn't involved skeletons or weeping children. I was born on Friday the 13th, so luck isn't my strong point, heh.

  15. I remember you from the Vanier forum, TBay. I guess we're both back in the ring ready for another potential bruising! I hope you get it, I'm not holding out much hope for myself. But at least I'll be able to stop bouncing between here, my university email, SSHRC twitter and the online tarot site!
  16. OMG, you do sound amazing! I really feel as though the whole thing depends on the two people reading your applications, and that's a crapshoot. I know they have a guidebook about biases but it seems inevitable that those in certain fields would privilege others or squash people in fields they despise etc. But congrats on being such a force, especially contra the good old boys.
  17. Yikes I did really badly (almost hilariously so) despite two books published and a few years of running workshops and giving talks etc! Congrats to everyone who was successful, especially those of you who have put so many hours of volunteer work in to try and make this a better world. Lord knows we need a better world.
  18. Thanks, this is really helpful information. I must say it's kind of creepy that they make you click into the portal like that. I don't know how I'll muster up the courage to log in. I'd much rather just get an email to scan through and look for the word 'regret'. And congrats on your achievement!
  19. I saw my supervisor yesterday and he was very gentle. It's a trying time for us all. I know it's a prestigious scholarship and very competitive and a great honour, but I'm so flat out broke that it might just mean the difference between finishing my studies or having to go work at Walmart at this point. If they'd even hire me with my skill-set, ha! Good luck and let's hope they put us out of our suffering sooner rather than later.
  20. Thanks, that makes sense! I guess I get a few more days to fantasize without trying to read all the facial expressions of my profs to see if they're in the know. Good luck!
  21. Ah, thanks so much for the quick reply. It's such a life-changing amount of funding and I confess I've spent quite a few hours daydreaming about it this winter. It's gotten to the point where it will be weird to stop. The odds are a little better than a lottery scratch ticket, after all! Good luck to everyone.
  22. Does anybody know if the nominating university is likely to have advance notice of Vanier scholarships? I was put forward to the national competition and am feeling antsy about meeting with my advisor tomorrow. Worried I'll get bad news and trying to prepare for the blow.
