  1. Yup! I'm in a similar boat. I suspect they say "as late as July" just in case they've some folks who decline a position at the 11th hour, and thus make room for wait-listed candidates. I mean, it also looks from the search results like a lot of programs accept PhD applicants into MA programs, instead of rejecting them outright. So, I think we can hope a few of these folks will turn their offers down, and make room for us. Personally, I'm going to cross my fingers and refrain from contacting the Department until closer to April 15th (when many schools ask for a decision). I'm wishing us both the best of luck!
  2. June!? I mean, that's just cruel, esp. for an international applicant. To be expected to just hop across the Atlantic with that little turnaround time is too much. I'm so sorry! I'm so in your corner. Let me know to whom I can direct a nasty letter reprimanding them for their negligence! Thanks for sharing the results search! I'm crossing my fingers that these results are woefully incomplete, and that there really are folks who were accepted before early May. *sigh* I think I'll write the Department the week of April 15th in hopes they've made a decision. Good luck:D
  3. Yeah, I mean none of the programs to which I'm applying are likely to offer funding for an MA. I think most of the dough goes to the PhDs. Still, I just don't know if the whole accepting-and-then-declining-for-a-better-offer can be seen as burning some potentially fruitful bridges down the road. Maybe I'm stressing out for no good reason. I dunno... Either way, I'm rooting for the both of us to hear ASAP!
  4. End of May!? Oh man, I really hope not, but the pessimist in me is growing louder and stronger with each passing minute, hour, day, and week I don't hear from Admissions. Yargh! Sorry, I meant "rolling admissions". Basically, what you've described - they look at apps. as they come in. Effectively making it first come, first served. One can only hope. Am thinking of asking U of IL for an extension on my pending decision; just say I want to know all my options before pressing "go". We'll see whether or not they buy it...
  5. I know what you mean, FranklinG! I'm applying for an MA in East Asian Studies at NYU, and they also have an April 15th application deadline! I can only hope they mean it's rolling. But still, I've not heard a peep from them since I submitted my app. back in Dec. Meanwhile, the University of Illinois wants to know by April 15th if I plan to attend. So, I've no idea what to do. Can anyone give advice? Has anyone else been in a similar situation before?
  6. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you'd only need the school's acceptance of withdrawal if you were offered financial support in the way of grants, fellowship, etc. Yes? At least that's how the linked PDF reads. So, if you aren't offered free money, then you do not need your school's permission to withdraw and subsequently accept an offer from another program. Thoughts?
  7. I think most schools reserve the right to let you know as late as June, although I think it highly unlikely that they exercise this option often. Maybe they just say that to account for wait-listed candidates and those who decline at the 11th hour? I'm still waiting on two schools and will probably call their departments early next week if I still haven't heard anything. I dunno. Anyone else have ideas?
  8. Heh, I'm still waiting on Columbia, and am terrified that NYU won't get back to me until May (their deadline for apps for M.A. EAS is APRIL 15?!?!). Not sure what I'm gonna do when April 15th rolls around and Uni. of IL asks me for a decision. Ugh!
