  1. I don't know anything about that particular school or program, but I can tell you that I just spoke with the graduate director at Adelphi University and he personally told me that their program alone received over 700 applications.
  2. Hey guys, about each graduate program gets roughly 300 applications for SLP, it is unfortunately a very competitive field! Hopefully you all will get some very good news!
  3. Haha mine too! I just don't understand why parents (or anyone) asks questions at open houses when they aren't the ones who are going to be attending the school, it is really irritating to me... lol
  4. Hey Katie, I don't think it's weird to bring a parent with you. BUT! I have been to open houses where there are ANNOYING parents who ask SO MANY QUESTIONS about money, housing options, etc. and it just gets irritating because we are graduate students, it is time to let us out of the nest a little, parents! So, as long as your mom isn't going to be like that, yay for moms!
  5. Hi, I did turn in my FAFSA since the recommended date to do that was I think in February. However, no schools have let me know any financial aid information and it is highly unlikely that they will. My sister began her M.S. last year and it wasn't until the summer that her financial aid information arrived from her school.
  6. I was accepted into all of the schools I applied (all on Long Island - I don't want to relocate ), C.W. Post, Hofstra and Adelphi. I am leaning towards Adelphi, but I'm still not sure. Actually, if anyone out there can help me, I'd appreciate it. The SLP's I work for tell me Adelphi is the *best* choice but one of them is the former clinic director so she may be partial, hehe.
  7. Damnnnnn!!! That's not even factoring in books and cost of living (assuming you don't live in the city already)... I would've commuted if I applied there and seriously considered going. Will you be going there?
  8. Out of curiosity, how much is it? lol I didn't apply because I knew it was pricy but I didnt know the actual dollar figure.
  9. Hi lilpup, I already responded to this question
  10. Hi Shelley, of the interviews I have been on, they have asked me general questions about myself and questions about how I got into the field and my experiences within the field. I was also asked what topics I was most interested in and why I was interested in their school. If you want, you can private message me and I can give you more information!
  11. Still waiting on Hofstra myself, they told me the same thing
  12. Hey LRB, if you don't get accepted anywhere, I suggest you take the time to find a job in a SLP-related field to sharpen up your resume, re-take your GRE (assuming your scores were not too great), and volunteer / shadow with SLP's and Audiologists and obviously re-apply for the spring / fall admissions period. If you don't mind me asking, what is your GPA (overall and major)? Also, you may want to consider getting new letters of recommendations unless you feel that the professors or people you asked this cycle definitely gave you top notch letters. Good luck!
  13. You guys should DEFINITELY call a school if you have not heard! It is not a big deal! Just call the admissions office and ask for the status of your application.
  14. I just called one of the schools that I applied to (to ask about my application status), I know that they are on spring break, but the office workers are indeed still there!
  15. go away
  16. Haha, I am so impartial to this, I don't know anything about any college athletics. The only sports that I care about are the New York Yankees
  17. Yeah lol I'm in New York and I have to say, none of the schools around here (maybe other than St. John's?) are too good at sports... unless I am totally out of the loop???
  18. Hi gatorgirl, I am not sure if I am understanding your question right, but if you are asking if visiting the school can help getting into the school, it really depends! If you can e-mail the department chair and set-up a day to visit the school with her, there is a very slight chance that she may remember you come admissions time. (You have to remember that these people not only meet hundreds of prospective students, but they also have their own students). I can tell you from my own experiences that it certainly does not hurt to visit the schools, it shows that you are interested and determined! I did it and the clinic chairperson remembered me at my interview and I am now admitted to the school!
  19. You were rejected by Hofstra? Could you by any chance tell me when? (I'm dieing!) I'm still waiting to hear anything from them, I saw rejections and acceptances, I called them and they said my application is still being reviewed.
  20. Ah, I see... that is not too far off... did you apply to grad schools and already get rejected? Or are you just thinking about your Plan B just in case?
  21. Awww Shelley!!! You are not lame! I actually commend you on being honest on your rejection. Maybe the reason you are only seing aceptances on here is because people don't have the courage to admit that they applied there and were in fact, rejected. I'm sorry! Cheer up & good luck! I know it is not a good feeling!
  22. Unfortunately all of those schools require the minimum 3.0 GPA to apply
  23. Most schools require at least a 3.0 GPA to even apply. Where did your sister apply? Oops sorry I didn't see that Katie already addressed this!
