Hello I may be going to Tampa for graduate school in the Fall and I was wondering if anyone could provide me with an updated list of places to live and places to avoid? Also, any information on places with great food, and great all around vibes would be nice. I know some of the information is biased because everyone has different tastes but as my knowledge of Tampa is entirely based on one trip to Busch Gardens I would like any additional advice based on your experiences. If you need any help with some of your own things I have also lived in Miami and Gainesville so I know a bit about each region.
I have been at USF for almost four years as an undergrad. Many of the apartments surrounding campus are filled with undergraduate students. This means that many are rent per room, furnished, with wifi/cable/utilities included. There are a few places that have more graduate students/families near campus. I'm currently in Lakeview Oaks and I haven't had any problems. It's five minutes from campus, it isn't rent per room, and its gated. Tampa Palms is also a nice area northeast of campus about 15-20 minutes away. It's more of a suburb/family area. Two of my favorite food/drink places near campus are Kaleisia Tea Lounge and Mr. Dunderbak's Biergarten. I really love Tampa and I am sad to be leaving soon (moving to Orlando for grad school).

They only have a MA for anthropology though (unless you just mean PhD students at Chico in general)?

I just got an email from Chico asking for an interview next week. I'm excited, but I've also heard that they don't do much funding. Does anyone else know much about Chico's funding?

@CgnNrsThis is super helpful. Thank you! I'm planning to visit Orlando next week and I will make sure to check those areas out. I'm really interested in Winter Park and Lake Baldwin, but I also want to check out Waterford Lakes since it's closer to campus.

For UTK I know the portal updated my app to "decision made" and then I had to wait 3 business days for the actual letter to be added to the portal before I could see it, so maybe it's a situation like that? Either way fingers crossed that you get good news!
I'm a little annoyed because I received a rejection email from UTK and in the email it said I would be contacted by the anthropology department as well. But my application still says in review. It has been almost a whole week since I got the email.

I have decided to accept an offer from the University of Central Florida to their MA in Anthropology. I currently live in Tampa and have been in Florida for most of my life. However, I am not very familiar with the Orlando area. I'm looking for any advice on the best places to live, apartment recommendations, etc. Being close to campus would be convenient, but I also don't want to be surrounded by partying undergraduates. Are there areas near campus that have more graduate students/families? If I were to move farther from campus, such as closer to downtown or Winter Park, what is the drive/traffic like?

It was an email.
I got accepted to UCF fully funded with a TA stipend and a fellowship. I'm from Florida and my family is here, so it's a really good option. I just really loved UTK when I visited.

Just got rejected from UTK. Pretty bummed... thought I might have had it... oh well...

@AnthroChick21 @phyanth Glad I've got you guys to share my suffering with over UTK. I actually have a 9 hour shift this evening to provide a distraction.

@MJF and @AnthroChick21, as much as I want to have hope, I'm not holding my breath. I feel like they released all of the results last week with the other acceptances. Does anyone know for sure that they haven't sent out results for biological anth?
It just seems like with all the applicants they get that someone would have posted that they got accepted into the biological program. The acceptances so far (that were posted) were for archaeology.

Ha! I've been having stress dreams as well. Usually they involve getting rejected (way less creative than yours).

Any one else hoping this will be the day (or at least week) for UT Knoxville to send out decisions for biological applicants? I've convinced myself that if I believe with all my heart it will happen today

They have multiple fields: archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, Mediterranean archaeology, and zooarchaeology. I'm just hopeful that bio just hasn't made a decision yet. Some of them might be at the AAFS meeting right now anyway.

Search anthropology in the results search, that is where I saw them. Neither of them stated their subfield. One MA student one PhD. My subfield is biological.

A couple people said they got accepted to to UT Knoxville, but my application says it is still in review. Starting to pull my hair out!!!!

Just got accepted to Chico State! I'm ecstatic but confused. I got into UCF fully funded with a stipend and a fellowship. I know the funding opportunities aren't nearly as good at Chico. But it's Chico, my top choice. Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!
