  1. I received an email from Walter Ott just now saying it was likely I would receive an offer this afternoon. Thank. You. So. Much. @Xia1.
  2. Also, if you post about it here afterward, it'll let you feel the all-natural high that comes with people acting like you saved their first-born child. ??
  3. May I ask where you were on the wait list initially?
  4. Congratulations, and best of luck!
  5. In a surprising twist of fate, we'll be able to see who really has the dopest marble collection! (o:
  6. At noon on Sunday I intend to accept FSU's MA offer (with great jubilation). I do think I would accept the wait list offers if they were to come through; however, I have at least some reason to believe I'm not high on the list at any of those programs, so I expect I'll be in Tallahassee come August.
  7. Heard back from all the schools I applied to this cycle, so my final tally, such as it is: UC-Riverside; Notre Dame; SLU; IN-Bloomington; UVA; FSU (MA). Best of luck to everyone still waiting until Sunday. It would have been much more difficult without all of you here.
  8. I see on the Facebook group that someone was accepted off of the UVA wait list and subsequently declined the offer.
  9. May I ask what number on the wait list you were originally? Edit: Also, congratulations!
  10. Should we plan to accept offers before a certain time on the 15th?
  11. I just received that "there's a non-trivial chance we can accept you," "don't accept other offers without consulting us first" email from UVA. I know that UVA this year seemed to have a gigantic wait list. I take it this is the canned email sent to everyone on the list?
  12. I stand corrected! To whom did you write? I might inquire myself now that we're down to brass tacks. Also, congratulations on your acceptance at GSU! I remember that you had been placed on the wait list. It must have been a wonderful feeling when you received that acceptance letter!
  13. UC Riverside for me. I haven't contacted them, but a few others here have (repeatedly) attempted contact with no luck. If past records are any indication, some of these schools (Riverside for sure) send out rejections well after April 15th (very helpful -- thanks guys!). I suspect others never notify rejectees at all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  14. To celebrate our being down to single-digit days before the 15th, I would like to invite you all to share your worst/best philosophy jokes. What do you call a bug that exists in all possible worlds? Highlight ---> A necessary weevil!! <---
  15. The end of the season is only a cool two weeks out, and we can expect final decisions to start rolling in before too long -- I'm excited for those of us who have already made their final decisions! We have a thread dedicated to those offers we're declining, but as @Swann pointed out, not a thread for the opposite. Let's turn things around and hear specifically about which schools' offers y'all have accepted! What was your final decision about where you'll be going this fall? What are you looking forward to? Concerned about?
  16. Another possibility I've considered is that the same wording is sent to everyone on the wait list, and it just becomes increasingly inapplicable the further down the list it's addressed.
  17. Thank you for the input @Halcyon23 and @Theodore8! I feel license to be a little more optimistic now. And @Needle in the Hay -- as someone on the wait list at SLU, let me be the first one to thank you!
  18. Received an update from the DGS at Indiana University saying that 6 students will be admitted in the fall, and that I'm #9 on the wait list. He also said "if experience is any guide, that means that there is a good chance that, before April 15 has come and gone, I will be in a position to offer you admission to our program," and "please, don’t accept an offer from a program you like less than ours without checking with me about what your standing is at IU". Curious what y'all's impression is. It strikes me as a little ... optimistic ... to say that #9 on a waitlist has a good chance of being offered admission. Surely it's uncommon for wait lists to be pulled from that deeply?
  19. Just to add a little anecdotal evidence to this: I received one acceptance (into an MA program) and 2 wait listings (into PhD programs); all 3 programs have faculty members working in (1) my specific area of interest and (2) subjects closely connected to the precise topic my writing sample was on. I can't say the same with regards to any of the other schools to which I applied, and it appears that I can expect a rejection from all those schools at this point.
  20. If I were counting, which I'm not, and if I were still waiting with breath bated, which I'm not, I would be cognizant of the fact that we have exactly 26 days left to wait until April 15th -- but I'm not.
  21. Also waiting to hear from 1. UC Riverside 2. University of Virginia Two wait listings were reported for UC Riverside on the 17th; two acceptances and one wait listing were reported in previous weeks for UVA. As usual, I'm not sure what to make of that.
  22. I see that some UC Riverside wait listings have gone out.
  23. If I'm reading this right, it looks like FSU's MA program has had exactly 6 PhD placements in the past 6 years -- and one of those was to FSU's own PhD program. Given the sheer number of students in the grad program, most of whom I presume are MA students, that number strikes me as shockingly low -- "do you think you'll be the one student who gets placed this year?" seems potentially a relevant question. Does anyone have thoughts on this?
