Joining in on this thread because I've been lurking the past couple days.

    I've applied to:

    - McGill (originally my top choice) ACCEPTED (I have until March 22 to make a decision)

    - Queens ACCEPTED (I have until March 28 to make a decision)

    - Waterloo MSc Public Health and Health Systems ACCEPTED (I accepted my offer in February)

    - Western PENDING

    - McMaster DENIED

Most likely will go to Waterloo.

Congrats!!! Did you apply to Queen's MPH or Msc?

Congrats!!! Do you mind sharing what rank you were? I am #9 and I still haven't got an offer.

I was somewhere on the top 5 thats what the grad assistant told me when I emailed her. Your ranking might have changes since they sent out some offers. I would email the grad assistant to find out more. Wishing you luck:)

I am waiting to hear back from Queens too. You put words to how I feel. Just waiting back for a decision from Queens to have some kind of closure. And very excited to meet you at western this September!! It will be so nice to out a face to all the forum members who are attending Western this fall. :)

    Hi there,

Queens sent out some offers to waitlisted applicants. I just got my offer. I hope you guys heard from them as well.

All the best to those still waiting for an offer.

I've had the same thing happen as well. Maybe we will hear back soon!

Hopefully, that will be amazing. If I am not wrong, it seems like you have made up your mind to attending Western, which is a great school. I have a friend who went there and he had an amazing experience. He highly spoke of the placement opportunities.

  5. I am waitlisted at Queen's University for MPH. I checked the application portal yesterday and my status had changed from 'application complete' to 'application submitted'.  Now I am worried that they might not have reviewed my application until now, which doesn't sense b/c they emailed me that I was waitlisted 2 months ago.

    Has anybody else experienced this?

  6. Did anybody on Queen's waitlist get admission offer for MPH?

Not sure what my chances are. If anybody on waitlist got any offers, please share so it can give us an idea of where we stand. This waiting sucks:(

I got an email from SFU yesterday and I was accepted to the MPH program in population health! I was on the waitlist and I definitely didn't think I would get off it so I'm super surprised and excited. They even offered me an entrance scholarship!

    Congrats!

no, they told me what i was ranked on the waitlist but not how many were on the waitlist in total. I will be declinign queens as I have already accepted McMasters offer. So maybe that will open some spots up for others :)

    Hi Emily,

Thanks for the reply, I wish you all the best. Hopefully it will workout for all of us by at the end.

Hey everyone who has been waiting for an update from Queens MPH or is in the same boat. I got an email today saying I am waitlisted and should hear about an offer before July.

    Hi Emily,

Did they tell you how many people are on the waitlist?

    Hi all,

Has anybody heard anything from Queen's MPH? I know yesterday (May 17th) was the deadline for people who got 3rd round offers to make a decision, I was wondering if anybody got any further offers or ranked waitlist.

McMaster - I haven't heard anything as of yet

Waitlisted for Waterloo MscPH and Queens

    Hi,

When did you get waitlisted at Queens? Did they email you and give you a rank?

You haven't heard anything back...that's not necessarily a bad sign. Most schools send out offers in waves so don't lose hope. This is my third time applying and I finally got acceptances this year after many rejections and waitlists. Keep building yourself up. If this is indeed your dream and something you are passionate about, and it is something you are working hard towards, I am confident that you will get in sooner or later!! In the meantime, if you need someone to vent to, I am here. I've been there and I know the feeling.

Thank you so much for the encouraging words. Do you mind sharing any tips about improving your application, other than more experience?

Don't lose hope my friend! You never know and as many others have said, acceptances are still being sent out! It isn't over til' its over! Keep positive and try to distract yourself from constantly refreshing your e-mail and university portal systems (although I am a hypocrite and doing that right now). Also, I hope you're not alone in feeling this way. Although I know I am stranger, if you ever need to talk, feel free to shoot me a personal message :) Keep your chin up!

Your an amazing person. I wish you and everybody else the best of luck.

I actually shared mine a few pages earlier, but here it is again:

I'll go through the 5 categories that they claim to use to access applications.

    1. Academic grades
The average of my last 10 senior level courses is a high 80, although my cumulative for my entire undergrad is much lower.

    2. Social science background
I come from a social science and social work background.

    3. A statement of intent
I think that my statement was decent. I really made an effort to look up what they were looking for and talk about how my experience fit that. (For example, talk about how I my work involves social determinants of health.)
I'm also hoping to do the health research route, so I spoke specifically about my vision for public health and the kind of research I want to do.

    4. Experience
As I mentioned above, I'm in social work, so it's quite easy to relate my work to social justice and health inequities.
I work full-time at a mental health treatment centre. I've worked one year working with high school students in low-income neighbourhoods -- this was case management, helping them use education to break out of poverty. Also have 1.5 years volunteering at homeless shelters, community centres, schools for children with special needs, etc.
I'm also currently working on publishing my first journal article in the field of public health.

    5. Two letters of reference
I honestly think this was the best part of my application. I had 1 academic, and 1 work reference. Great relationships with both of them.

Aww, thanks for sharing your stats. Well deserved!

Best of luck with your studies, now that you are in :D

I got the acceptance email for UofT health promotion too!!

The email says "We have received 500 applications and are accepting 42 students for September 2018". I wonder if that means they sent out 42 acceptances, or a lot more than 42 to get to the desired cohort size of 42.

    Congrats!

Do you mind sharing your stats so the rest of us can get an idea of where we stand?

I'm sorry to hear this too :( You do have such a strong profile! I would email and ask about what the decision criteria was. I did the same for my rejection from McGill and they did give a good answer.

    Hi,

do you mind sharing what feedback they gave you? Broadly speaking..

I just got an email of rejection from UBC MA in Interdisiciplinary (where I applied to do it in conjunction with SPPH). I am a bit taken back as I also applied for their MSc in Population and Public Health but the odd's might be low for that program as it in very quantitatively based and I feel as though my background does not lend itself to it. But we will see, fingers crossed. Background

-3 years health promotion/public health Ieading a national project around changing Canadian legislation

    -Nursing degree (3.9 GPA)

-Two supervisors who have guaranteed me funding and a position/office in their research centre

-Well written proposal inwhich both supervisors said was PhD level

-My stats course is a grade below the requirement therefore I think UBC will hone in on this but hoping they see all the other qualifications and make a rounded decision.... but who knows

-Presentations, publications, experience writing a nursing course module for a government body.

I am honestly shocked about the MA... The requirements are so much lower! Geez, what does it take to get into school these days?!

Hey, sorry to hear about your rejection. I know a proff who sits in the admissions committee, according to her, the letter of statement is very important, in which you have to demonstrate fit. You have an amazing profile but maybe too many people applied this time around.

  18. Emailed Queen's MPH. They have sent out first round of offers. I was told that they are not sending out second round of offers anytime soon. I am not sure if I am waitlisted or rejected. Is anybody else in a similar situation with Queens MPH?
