According to someone on the Facebook group, alternate promotion emails have started. Nothing in my inbox, so I'll be committing to an internship in China instead!

Andorra also sent results, it seems. Holding out anxiously for Japan...

The first alternate promotions should be this week, Tuesday or later. Since there is only one CLS site in Japan, and therefore fewer people who might drop, it might be good for me to assume that it's this week or never for me. Fingers crossed!

Over the years we can find data on, the first finalist notifications have been no later than March 8. I hope someone here gets good news by Friday!

Nope, but the anecdotes I've heard make it sound like it's a decent chance. I'd guess that we Japanese alternates have a bit of a hard time, since there is only one program in Japan, but don't give up yet! A poll on the Facebook applicants group showed no more than 6 known alternates in any program so far, and program alumni say that they saw a decent number of applicants in their classes. Some got their notifications as late as May... I don't know if I can play chicken for that long, but if I get an email then I will definitely see what I can do.

Someone on the Facebook group said that he was a Korean finalist in a past year. His institution had 27 students, and about 4 or 5 of them were alternates. No idea how big the alternate pool is, though.

Alternate for advanced Japanese. Hmmm..... Well, I'm honored to have made it here, and the lateness of the notification may mean that a spot will open for me. But, I'm going to start the process of getting my internship in China. Congratulations, everyone!

A Tweet this morning

I'd say it's more than slightly annoying; I'm sure a lot of people have potential employers waiting for the results. I'm supposed to do an internship in China if this falls through, but this is going to make it really difficult to finalize everything... There is zero tolerance if applications come in late, but it seems that results are on a very loose timeline...

At least one person on the staff is a 2015 alumnus. He must surely remember the stress of waiting; there must be some really good governmental reason for being so vague. Maybe they can't show their hand too early, or alien body snatchers will have time to take us over.

Well, we are free for the next twelve hours. Then we begin again, only to be disappointed again

Yeah, I am q: Well, I wouldn't be surprised to see it within the next forty minutes. But, I wouldn't be surprised if they pushed it to Friday, either. They changed the FAQ to say that it might come in early March, as someone pointed out earlier Edit: Study disengaged for next 27 minutes. Staring at screen. Active wait mode.

But there won't be any more waiting if that happens - you can wait until then *and* be petty!

Looking over previous years' threads here, it seems that orientation is usually in June. That is a relief to me, and takes a lot of stress off of this. I have backup plans for June and July (even though CLS is what I really want to do), so I don't need to panic anymore. Edit: Still checking email too frequently.

A non-refundable enrollment fee will be charged to my account tomorrow for a 10-day study abroad course in May. If CLS pre-departure orientation overlaps with it, I'll have to cancel and that's a sunk cost. If not, my current study abroad scholarships cover it. It's frustrating that they won't even say when the orientation will be.

The office is closed, we get to relax until tomorrow morning.

I'm starting to get the feeling that they'll say "later this week" right up until the moment they hit "send", or until 4:59:59PM on Friday... when they'll say "sometime next week" :s

I shot a message to them this morning on Facebook Messenger, asking whether it was unlikely that we would receive a notification today. In spite of asking specifically about today, I still got a vague answer "Hi Nick! We have not determined an exact date for notification yet. We hope to notify all semi-finalists of their status by the end of this week. We appreciate your patience!" I wonder what is holding them up in such a way that they can't even give a minimum wait time.

I don't drink, but I might by the end of this.

I also have to make a decision on a short class in May by Wednesday. I might be able to do both, but it depends entirely on when the pre-departure orientation is if I get CLS. I have plans for either response if I can just get the response on time, haha... It'd be nice even if they could say that they are not sending announcements today. Time to get a grip on myself and study.
