  1. who I should ask to get my last recommendation letter from. Is it better to ask a history professor I'm closer with or a stat professor I rarely talk to? I had both professors for 2 classes each and had good grades in both. The difference is that I had a better relationship with the history professor (went to office hour, got advice on paper.. etc) whereas I rarely went to my stat class and was sleeping in class when I did go (I know :/ I'm dumb). I'm leaning towards history professor at the moment. My other 2 LoRs are from Stat and econ professors.
  2. Not the subject expert here, but i think you will be okay with that one W on the transcript. Remember the process is holistic. They are not going to reject you over a withdrawal
  3. @bayessays Thank you for the honesty. What stats master programs should I be targeting for? That's within my reach.
  4. I know that Real Analysis is mandatory for most of the top Stat Ph.D. programs, but is it mandatory for Biostat programs? Here are my stats: Undergrad Institution: UNC Major(s): Stat and Econ GPA: 3.5 Major GPA: 3.55 Type of Student: Domestic Asian Male GRE General Test: Q: 169 V: 161 W: 4.5 Classes: Calc 1-2: High School Calc 3: B Econometric: A- DiffEq: C Linear Algebra: B Probability: A Stochastic: B Optimization: B Time Series(Grad level Class): B+ Other math and econ classes: Bs and As As in couple other stat modeling class focused on SAS, R, and Excel LoR: From stat and econ professor I have good relationships with. Expect them to be okay. I'm adding some Biostat Ph.D. programs to my list of schools, so far I have UNC, Michigan, Columbia, Ohio State, and Boston University. Is it worth the money and effort to apply to these reach programs? What are some mid-tier programs that I should add to my list? Thanks in advance!
  5. @KnowSomethingParty Yah the classes i didn't list are classes like micro, macro, discrete math, combinatoric.. etc no high level proof based classes. my major GPA is right around there too. 3.55 ish
  6. I have very similar stat as you, 3.5 GPA, similar GRE, currently working, debating between master or PHD, Let me know how things turn out for you.
  7. Expect them to be average. I graduated this past May and is currently working as a Business/ Data analyst at a large credit union. I used lots of SQL, Tableau and little bits of R at work. I'm thinking about applying to master program this cycle. I'm interested in data science/ machine learning fields. I've heard that traditional stat programs are better than the newer data science programs? What are my chances at mid- high tier programs ? Schools I'm interested in applying to: UNC, NCSU, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, U Penn, Michigan, CMU, Harvard (Data science) anyone knows this program? Any schools I should add or take off?
