That's bad... I really hope I can get it; so that I can go where-ever I want... But I saw that there were only like 20 awards in my category last year, I felt like my chance is close to 0.

I am going for a graduate degree in Environmental Engineering. I am currently debt-free and doing really well in a tier 3/4 undergraduate institute. All the top schools UCB, UIUC, and GA Tech (except Stanford) takes me, though put me in MS and with no funding. However, my undergrad institute decides to give me a 4 years fellowship ($32 grands each year) for PhD. Money is good; but I also want to go to those top school - which will do me good in the future. I am inclined toward top school. If you were me, what would you do...

UIUC and UCB just told me no funding :o I still haven't seen any update from UT Austin Status Check. It is still saying "We have received all credentials required to process your application. Your file has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review." and "An official confirmation of our admission decision will be mailed to your permanent address." I hope no news mean good news... Nevertheless, I just sent the coordinator an email for update...

Admitted to UCB, UIUC, and GA Tech. UCB mentioned nothing about funding; UIUC said if I don't hear anything further, then it doesn't have funding; GA Tech flatted out with no funding. Stanford rejected me UT Austin is still in progress... I guess funding option will make the decision for me.
