  1. Good Day all, I'm a former graduate admissions officer for York University (with extensive experience in building a strong graduate application) for several of York's graduate programs, primarily the 1-Year Advanced Standing and 2-Year (non-BSW) MSW. My services include - Assistance with developing a strong statement of interest (with examples) Putting together a professional CV Providing you with pointers you may take to your references to ensure they write you a strong reference letter I can also do pre-assessments by looking at your transcripts/full applications and tell you how you measure up I also have an extensive "Statement of Interest/Intent" repository with statements from students that were accepted into the program within the last 5 years. York University's School of Social Work tends to be rather particular with their statement and at only 500 words, doesn't give much room to include a lot of detail. I would be happy to assist in helping you navigate that. Fees are reasonable. Please send me a PM with which program you're applying to and a little about yourself. Cheers, Mo
  2. why not call the graduate program tomorrow and ask? I'm sure they'll have plenty of insights. I know their 2 year program takes in only 20 students out of like a 1000 or something, so they might definitely be more open to one-on-one time since they wouldn't have as many inductees as U of T. they've been really good to me in that respect. i noticed they're definitely fans of York, but not gung-ho to the point where they think it is the best school for everyone.
  3. Totes! He ALWAYS calls back and is so patient with me over the phone. I don't know of others' experiences on here, but hands down the best grad admin for any of the schools I applied to. Even when I did not get accepted into the program, he spent considerable time on the phone with me just going through other options and didn't lose sight of the fact that I wanted to complete a MSW. This is SO disheartening, especially for a school like York that preaches social advocacy and AOP. It only takes a few bad professors to ruin it for everyone. My research is around the same area. When I got my rejection from a few schools, I spoke to their grad offices about my frustrations but they wouldn't have any of it. So frustrating! Did you get any offers from other schools?
  4. first post- yay! I also spoke with York's graduate program assistant and he assured me that he had personally called all those that got into the advanced standing program, and if we didn't receive a call that either we've been denied or wailtlisted. He said the strike only affected the 2year offers going out, and those would be delayed by a week. I'm also with Monoo on this one. it was much nicer hearing that i wasn't accepted rather than waiting around. he was extremely helpful with going through options with me and hearing out my story. i'll say (and this might be just my experience), but i've had the best customer service experience from York's social work department. the only other ones i could compare were UofT and Ryerson that would just blow me off i must have called York's graduate program assistant a bazillion times these last few months and he was always kind, patient and helpful. I know that isn't mentioned on here much and probably isn't relevant, but i really think it counts for social work departments to be warm and welcoming to applicants.
